Common Cause Nebraska

Common Cause Nebraska Democracy is Our Common Cause! Preserving democracy & holding power accountable with research, advocacy, & organizing.

Common Cause Nebraska is a non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots advocacy organization. Over the past 40 years, we've worked as our state’s foremost government watchdog, advocating for issues like campaign finance reform and voting rights, while striving to expose corruption and influence. Through a combination of coalition building, policy development, research, public education, and lobbying, our

goal is to bring to the forefront the issues that affect Nebraskans at the local, statewide, and national level. Above all else, we want to see a Nebraska that strives for open, honest, and ethical government.

The Fight Is Not Over

Your voter data matters. And our lawsuit is still moving forward.

The Nebraska Supreme Court accepted our appeal.
An expedited hearing is set for March 31.

Yes, Nebraskans’ data was released to the DOJ.

But future voter data is still at risk.

Secretary Evnen should protect your information.
Not expose it.

Call or email Secretary Evnen's office.
Demand stronger safeguards.
Stand up for voter privacy.

Does Nebraska limit big donors in our elections? No.

We are one of only 11 states with zero caps on individual donations.

That means the wealthiest donors can give unlimited amounts.

That is not freedom.
That is not fairness.

Nebraska voters should not be drowned out by millionaires.

LB1017 would set donation limits for candidate campaigns.
We support it.

Our elections should belong to the people, not the highest bidder.

Reach out to members of the Government Committee and encourage them to advance LB1017.
Let’s restore Nebraska voters' influence in our elections.

For the THIRD time in THREE sessions, lawmakers are pushing Winner-Take-All.

Nebraska’s split electoral vote helps our state stand out.

LR24CA would end that system for good.

Our current system reflects the full strength of our state.
Urban and rural. And brings national attention to Nebraska.

This is not about party politics.
It is about protecting our community’s voice.

Email or call your senator today.
Tell them Nebraska’s system works.
Vote NO on LR24CA. Protect Nebraska’s Electoral Advantage!

ICE activity is raising real fear in our communities.

And the Nebraska Legislature is responding.

LB906 and LB884 say officers should not hide behind masks while carrying out public duties.
Accountability matters. Honesty matters.

LB907 and LB1034 aim to reinforce limits on ICE in spaces like our schools, hospitals, and courthouses. Places that should feel safe and not like traps.

This is about family.
This is about freedom.
This is about standing up for our neighbors.

Share your testimony with the Judiciary Committee. Let them know where you stand.

URGENT UPDATE: The Nebraska Supreme Court granted our appeal to stop Secretary of State Evnen's release of Nebraskans' voter data to the Federal DOJ.

But Secretary Evnen has said he will release the files tomorrow, February 12th, regardless of what the courts decide.

Tell Secretary Evnen to honor Nebraska's constitutional process and refrain from sharing your data until the Court has weighed in.

Email him right now through the link in our bio.

Share with others so Secretary Evnen knows that Nebraskans want their data to stay here and not be handed over to the DOJ!

Should the federal DOJ have access to your private voter data?

We say no.

Your information belongs to you.
Not Washington.

We sued to stop the Nebraska Secretary of State from releasing non-public voter data.
A court ruled against us.

We’ve filed an appeal.
We are seeking a new injunction.

This is about freedom.
It’s about who controls Nebraska elections.

Call the Secretary of State today.
Use the link in the comments to send an email.

Tell him to protect your data.
Tell him to stand up for Nebraska voters.

This week, a court ruled against protecting Nebraska voters’ data privacy.

We’re disappointed.
But we’re not backing down.

State officials should control Nebraska elections.
Not Washington bureaucrats.

Voters should not wait for harm to demand protection.

Secretary Evnen plans to share your voter date with the DOJ on Thursday, Feb 12.

Use the link in the comments to tell him to protect your voter data.

Your private information is worth protecting.
We will exhaust every option to protect Nebraska voters.

Under current law, Nebraskans with felony convictions can collect petition signatures.

LB1068 would restrict that freedom by blocking Nebraskans with past fraud convictions from helping collect signatures.

We testified in opposition because freedom to petition our government matters.

People asking for change should not face new roadblocks.

Democracy works best when communities can speak up together.

02/07/2026

A busy week at the Capitol with major impacts on Nebraska’s democracy.

LB1068 would limit who can gather petition signatures. We opposed it because freedom to petition belongs to all Nebraskans.

LB927 addresses foreign influence in elections.
Although we oppose foreign money in Nebraska elections, we took a neutral position because the proposed bill could unnecessarily burden grassroots campaigns.

LR283CA passed out of committee and would change Nebraska’s constitution. Nebraska already requires citizenship to vote. This amendment is unnecessary and fuels false claims. We oppose it.

Next week, lawmakers will hear LB844.
States using this system are alreaxy flagging eligible voters as non-citizens by mistake.
We oppose anything that keeps qualified Nebraskans from voting.
