Duffle Bags and More Inc., previously known as the Lower Delaware Duffle Bag Project, will continue supporting children in foster care by making and providing a new duffle bag, toiletries bag and stuffed toy for each child. The bags are given to children by caseworkers of the Delaware Division of Family Services during the removal process. To raise funds to continue the project, volunteers make ut

ility bags to sell. It’s terribly sad to think of children being taken from their homes, often due to a situation they can’t control or even understand. But it is even sadder when one realizes they are asked to pack their belongings into a black plastic garbage bag. It’s easy to imagine that children begin to lose their dignity and begin to feel unimportant. Yet this is the reality for some children today, without the efforts of Duffle Bags and More Inc. Debbie Fratella, board president, said, “While children in the foster care system remain our first priority, the creation of Duffle Bags and More Inc. We now have the opportunity to assist other clients, such as graduates from drug rehabilitation programs, victims of domestic abuse, and the homeless." Duffle Bags and More is proud to announce the launching of its Essential Grant Award program by recognizing a deserving senior from Cape Henlopen High School who needs financial assistance for post-secondary education not covered by Federal or State funding. ( aging out foster care students, homelessness)

This year’s recipient is Brooklyn Burgos, who has been awarded a $2,000 Essential Grant Award in support of her continued education at Delaware Technical Community College.

Brooklyn was selected for her dedication, perseverance, and commitment to pursuing higher education. Duffle Bags and More is honored to support students who demonstrate determination and a strong vision for their future.

“We are excited to continue investing in the next generation through our Essential Grant Award program,” said Duffle Bags and More. “Brooklyn represents the hard work and potential we aim to encourage through this scholarship opportunity.”

Just a reminder: April work party will be held on Monday (4/20) from 9-12.

Joe Balinski of Delaware Department of Family Services will be our guest speaker at our April work party. He'll give us an update on how our bags are received by children in foster care, plus let us know about a new collaborative effort underway to help fill our bags before they reach children in need.
