The Sons of the American Revolution honors our Revolutionary War patriot ancestors by promoting patriotism, serving our communities, and educating and inspiring future generations about the founding principles of our country. The Delaware Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, a Delaware non-profit corporation originally organized on January 29, 1890, is a patriotic, historical and educat

ional section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. The Delaware Society, as part of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR), helps perpetuate and preserve the memory, ideals, patriotism, courage and sacrifice of those men and women who helped secure American independence from Great Britain through the Revolutionary War (1775-1783). The Sons of the American Revolution believe that preservation and promulgation of these stories serves to inspire and strengthen each succeeding generation to continue to defend those freedoms originally given to us by the heroes of the American Revolution.

Join us at the Archives this Saturday at 10:30 am for June's First Saturday program, "Not Today, PA," presented by Leah Greer.

As the nation celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Delaware has a milestone of its own to celebrate. During the Revolutionary era, Delaware leaders made the choice to break away not just from England, but also from Pennsylvania to establish their own government.

This program will examine the early days of the Lower Counties, the conditions that led to Delaware’s separation from Pennsylvania, and the challenges the new state faced as it recovered from the economic and social toll of the War for Independence.

The presentation will also explore the origins of Separation Day, which observes Delaware’s independence from Pennsylvania. Today, Delaware’s Separation Day celebration takes place in New Castle County during the second weekend in June.
