: interested in exploring entrepreneurship or careers? Apply now for study opportunities in summer 2027! 💡

Middle and high school students in Appalachia are eligible to apply for the Appalachian Entrepreneurship Academy (AEA) and Appalachian STEM Academy, preparing the next generation of business leaders and scientists.

The Appalachian Entrepreneurship Academy offers high school students a chance to develop skills in business and economic development, based at Appalachian State University from July 17-24, 2027.

The Appalachian STEM Academy is a hands-on learning experience for middle & high school students and teachers at Oak Ridge Associated Universities in Tennessee, from July 10-24, 2027.

Every Caldwell County Schools campus now has a CPR, First Aid, and cardiac emergency response training kit, thanks to a generous donation from the Caldwell Memorial Hospital Foundation and the American Heart Association, with support from UNC Health Caldwell.

When there's a medical emergency at school, being prepared makes the difference and keeps our students and staff safe. These kits give our teams the tools to keep practicing so they're ready to step in. We’re grateful to our partners for investing in our schools.

❤️ A Little Kindness Can Go a Long Way. ❤️

Sometimes, the smallest acts of kindness make the biggest difference. For many of the individuals we serve through PORT, things we often take for granted—clean socks, a toothbrush, a warm pair of gloves, or a simple snack—can mean more than we realize. Through Project Kindness, we’re asking our community to help us meet people where they are, one small act of compassion at a time.

These items may seem simple, but to someone facing homelessness, substance use, or difficult life circumstances, they can provide comfort, dignity, and a reminder that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten.

💙 You don’t have to change someone’s entire life to make a difference in their day.

We’re collecting donations of everyday essentials to distribute to individuals in need throughout our community.

Every donation, big or small, matters!

Join DMH/DD/SUS on Oct. 28, 2026, 12:00-1:00 p.m. for the Statewide Traumatic Brain Injury Provider Collaborative Kickoff. The new initiative responds to the state’s limited TBI workforce, growing provider needs, and the need for stronger, more coordinated collaboration.

By joining the Collaborative, participants will help build a more unified network and contribute to shaping statewide TBI priorities. Anyone involved in providing services or supports to people living with brain injuries is encouraged to participate in this new statewide effort.
