Two and a half weeks ago, we put out a call to our community to help us add Happy Valley School to our Backpack Program. They had a need and came to us seeking assistance.

Thanks to our community, we have raised enough in funds and have received a generous donation of multiple quantities of every food item on our wish list! We also received 5,000 kraft bags that go into each food bag--enough to sustain us for a school year!

Thank you for helping ensure no child in our community goes hungry.

We had a wonderful time yesterday attending the Caldwell County Economic Development & Foothills Home Builders Association's Lunch and Learn.

Economic Development Director, Ashley Bolick, shared an informative update on the future of Caldwell County, what's happening right now, and provided key findings and statistics on growth and development.

At first glance, economic development may seem separate from the work of a nonprofit. But when businesses grow, jobs are created, wages increase, and families have greater opportunities to thrive. That's why understanding the economic trends shaping Caldwell County is important to our work at United Way.

Many of the challenges nonprofits address—financial hardship, housing stability, workforce readiness, access to healthcare, and educational opportunity—are directly connected to the strength of our local economy.

We appreciate opportunities like this to learn from community leaders, stay informed about the future of Caldwell County, and better understand how we can work alongside businesses, educators, and community partners to build a stronger community for everyone. Economic development and community impact go hand in hand.

The latest ALICE report is here. ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, and represents the population of people who work but do not make enough to afford the basic needs in life.

In Caldwell County, 14% of households live in poverty and 33% of households are ALICE families. We receive calls daily from your neighbors, seeking assistance, and work hard to connect them to the proper resource. We also fund agencies that are able to provide assistance with basic needs like food, water, and utility assistance.
