Hi everyone,
Happy Memorial Day weekend!!
Here’s to another boating season.. I see most of the boats are in the water. This year I will be testing the water 4 times in 4 different spots. Hopefully the levels will be lower than last year. I know people have different reasons for why they test different areas so I’m going to test for what makes the most sense.. If you have neighbors that are not on this page, please share it with them, I hope to share the important information and hopefully fun stuff too!! I would also like to start an e-mail page where we can share the minutes from the meetings so everyone is informed of what is going on with the pond and the park. A reminder for those unaware or in need of clarification: Massachusetts state boating law (which includes Jet Skis) requires maintaining a 150-foot distance from docks and not exceeding 6 mph while operating a jet ski.

With Memorial Day weekend fast approaching let's hope the Watershed District gets some water tests done ASAP so we have a baseline to work with and we know the water is safe.

There should be 5 samples taken 1 in each of the 3 coves and 1 at the Greenville Beaver Dam tributary and lastly by town Beach. There is no need for the middle of the pond. Locations of the samples to be tested are marked with a red X

Let's hope the water is safe this year unlike last year being over 20x the States safe limit.

Just a public FYI, I had a 300 # black male bear on Burncoat Lane last night just after 1030pm. I startled the bear when i went to let my dogs out. The bear was only 10 feet away with my birdfeeder knocked to the ground enjoying a late night snack.

The bear ran away towards the boat ramp.

Better late than never, the valve to the Dam has finally been cracked open to allow for the lowering of the ponds water.

How well do you know the Massachusetts boating laws?

1-How fast can you travel in a boat after sunset?

2-What lights are required to be on your boat after sunset?

3-If visibility is limited, how fast can you travel?

4-How close can you go to a dock or swimming area?

5- what is the minimum size of a body of water can you use a jetski?

6- Can you tow a tube on a jet ski?

7- Can you operate a jetski or any boat without lights after sunset?

8-Can you operate a boat with a person sitting with their legs over the bow?

Bonus question

9- Can you operate a boat while under the influence ?

The answers.

1- 6 mph with no wake
2- while in travel front green and red lights must be on, while stationary your rear white light must be visible.
3- this goes for dense fog and after sunset, 6 mph and no wake.
4- 150 feet

8 No, (this is probably one of the most dangerous things you can do on a boat. If the person falls in there is not enough time to shut the motor off to prevent the propeller from striking the person. )
9- No, 0.8 % is the law and if found guilty of being OUI you can also lose your driver's license.

Town Beach opening day.

There is a beige paddle boat floating by the island. It was there at 6am this morning and still nearby. It appears hung up by a fallen tree.

Still no official word from our District in regard to the dangerously high bacteria levels. I suggest you reach out to your board members and ask what their plan is.

The pond was treated today by Solitude for Lily pads. The recommendation is to give the chemicals 24 hours to properly work.

I have already heard from some proprietors that have a confirmed illness from the water. Unfortunately i am not in position to do anything other than share the news here.
