RONALD A. BURGESS, JR FOUNDATION HOLDS BACKPACK GIVEAWAY EVENT IN SPENCER
A backpack distribution event, sponsored by the Ronald E. Burgess, Jr. Foundation was held at O’Gara Park in Spencer, MA, on August 22nd. Backpacks were distributed to students from the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District. The “Full Send Jeep Group” collaborated with the Burgess Foundation to assist with handing out the backpacks, each of which had school supplies inside. Scout Troop 116 was on hand with an information booth set up and games for those who attended. One of the players from the Worcester Majors, a semi-pro basketball team, was also on hand to sign autographs.

DPHS ATHLETIC BOOSTERS HOLD TOLL BOOTH FUNDRAISER
The David Prouty High School Athletic Boosters held a Toll Booth Fundraiser on August 22nd on Main St. in Spencer, MA. Booster members were out in force with a number of students and the Panther mascot helping out as well. The school year begins on September 1st and Fall athletics begin shortly after that. Good luck as the Fall athletic season begins, Panthers!

Sunoco to host family fundraiser for the Spencer fire and police departments

SPENCER - Raffle prizes, face painting, and other activities will be available at Sunoco's fundraiser for Spencer’s fire and police departments between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 30 at 73 W Main St, Spencer. “We wanted to create something that families could enjoy while also doing something meaningful for the people who do so much for our community,” Sam Taher, the owner of Sunoco, said in a statement to the Spencer Journal....

Superintendent Paul Haughey resigns effective Aug. 30

SPENCER/EAST BROOKFIELD - During a special meeting on August 24, the Spencer-East Brookfield School Committee voted unanimously to accept the resignation of Superintendent Paul Haughey, effective August 30. Members also voted unanimously to appoint Gary Suter, (the business manager) as interim superintendent effective immediately. Chair Jeffrey Sauvageau thanked Haughey for his eight years of service to the district, noting he led them through the high school project, “You brought us through COVID, you brought us through so many challenges,” he said....

CommunityScale to review and update zoning bylaws

SPENCER - On August 11, Selectmen voted to approve a contract with CommunityScale to review and update zoning bylaws and subdivision regulations. Town Planner Vivian Poplawski told the board she recommended CommunityScale following a review of evaluation criteria from four proposals. Additionally, input from the Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Board agreed with that recommendation. Poplawski said funding for the contract would come from a $50,000 grant from the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs....

SPENCER SENIOR CENTER END OF SUMMER EVENT
The Spencer Senior Center held its End of Summer event on August 21st. Those who attended were treated to a meal, live music featuring Sunset Lane and ice cream from M&A ice cream truck.
