Meet Dorothy and Gary Piszczek, a father-daughter duo who've welcomed a section of the Pequot Trail onto their land. Their property tells centuries of stories: stone walls and foundations winding through successional forests, left behind from agriculture in the 1700s.
For three generations, the Piszczeks have called the Hellgate Farm home, sharing it with bobcats, coyotes, fisher cats, and the occasional black bear. Now, they share it with hikers too.

The Pequot Trail spans 8 miles from Ledyard to Preston. At the northern end of the trail, hikers pass beaver ponds, old pastures, and glimpses of the Thames River. Nearby land deeds can be traced back to ownership by the Mohegan Sachem Uncas. At its southern end, hikers can walk to the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center. Hikers of the Pequot Trail will be surrounded by local history at every turn!
