Quiet Corner Refugee Resettlement

Quiet Corner Refugee Resettlement We have resettled five families from Afghanistan, Nicaragua, the Ukraine, & Syria.

The Quiet Corner Refugee Resettlement was founded in 2015 to co-sponsor refugee families with Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services (irisct.org) of New Haven. We are currently providing comprehensive assistance to an Afghan family of six. Volunteer coordinators help them in these areas, among others: banking, budgeting, education, employment, English learning, food shopping, healthcare appoin

tments, house furnishings, housing, paperwork, Social Security registration, socialization, technology, and transportation.

The QCRR happily announces that it has welcomed its fifth co-sponsored refugee family, this time through IRIS and the Welcome Corps program of the State Department. The Nicaraguan family of four was greeted by our volunteers at a Hartford airport and moved into their lovingly furnished and fully stocked Willimantic apartment just in time for Christmas Eve. This Spanish-speaking family shows great interest in their English tutoring and in preparing for entering school and work, once health appointments are complete and the groundwork has been laid. We greatly appreciate those who moved quickly to facilitate their arrival and furnish their new home with such care. Once again, our community has truly opened its heart and organized effectively to welcome the stranger, and we thank you!
