Thank you to everyone who joined Health Foundation of La Porte and Unity Foundation for two days focused on expanding access to attainable housing in La Porte County.

Between Tuesday’s bus tour and Wednesday’s Attainable Housing Convening, we explored local housing projects, learned from one another, and discussed ways to help people at all income levels find a place to call home.

A healthy housing ecosystem takes serious collaboration, and it was inspiring to see leaders in attendance from across the spectrum, including local government, construction, nonprofits, and beyond. Their diverse perspectives and experiences sparked invaluable discussion about the challenges ahead and the opportunities to make progress together.

There’s more work to be done, and we’re excited to continue building on these conversations. Thank you for being part of it!

What a fun stop on our attainable housing bus tour today! So great to share progress on several projects in Michigan City and La Porte, and we’re just getting started.

Our team was honored to showcase Karwick Village on the Attainable Housing 2026 | Building Momentum tour this afternoon, where attendees learned about our community, the co-op, and asked insightful questions. Thank you to The Unity Foundation of La Porte County and to The Health Foundation of La Porte for bringing together this wonderful group today.

Developers, funders, government officials, nonprofit organizations, and service providers are invited to attend Attainable Housing Convening 2026 | Building Momentum on Wednesday, October 28. Supported by Unity Foundation of La Porte County and Health Foundation of La Porte, the convening will bring together partners working to increase attainable housing throughout La Porte County.

The morning will kick off with keynote speakers Jeri Pat Gabbert of Unity Foundation of La Porte County and Eric DeWald of HFL and a Barriers to Attainable Housing Fireside Chat with Ed Seal of CoAction (CoAction.Care)and Major Becky Simmons of Salvation Army of La Porte County (The Salvation Army Michigan City Corps and Community Center).

Then guests will attend two breakout sessions:

La Porte County FEMA/IN211 One-Stop Shop!

Representatives at the One-Stop Shop (OSS) will provide in-person assistance, answer questions, and help homeowners and renters apply for FEMA's Individual Assistance program. These services are provided at no cost to survivors. 211 is also available to provide guidance on disaster resources, including transportation services.
