Who Are We?

Life Temple was founded by Pastor Robert G. Fleming on the first Sunday of March in 1985. It started in a storefront on the corner of West 10th Street in Michigan City, Indiana, and from there, the Lord began to bless. The original church building needed work, and everyone was eager to help. We are reminded of the scripture in Ecclesiastes 9:10 that says, “Whatsoever thy hands find to do, do it with might.” With everyone’s help, the work was completed on the building.

The Lord blessed the member’s labor. In May of the same year, through the diligent efforts of Deacon Willie Parker and his wife Mother Arlima Parker, a new facility was located. It was a small church at 139 S Porter Street. There was much fasting, praying and seeking the Lord, and because of it He added to the church. Everyone’s hearts were overwhelmed, for they knew it was the Lord’s doing. Even though the building was small, it was filled with God’s Spirit. Before long, the membership had outgrown the building: chairs were placed in the aisles, and yet they came. People sat in the stairwell, and yet they came. People had to stand outside, and yet they came. After a while, we realized that the time had come for a larger building if the work of the ministry was to continue.

The Lord spoke to Pastor Fleming, instructing him to “March until March,” and this is what he and the members did. At the end of March 1991, God lead the congregation to a church located at 5385 N. Johnson Road on the first Sunday in May. The Lord had not failed; He increased the membership and continued to add to the church. By the Spring of 2000, the membership had outgrown yet another the facility.

August of 2000, the Lord led us to our current location (3711 W US 20). When we first acquired the property, it consisted of a large pole barn, two small buildings, located on 68 acres in LaPorte County, IN. The men of Life Temple, under the guidance of the late Minister Albert Fleming, worked diligently transforming the large pole barn into a beautiful edifice for the glory of God. By the help of the congregation, and the faithfulness of God, we held our first service in May of 2001 at this new location.
