I try very hard to keep our page lighthearted. I want people to smile when they see our posts. I want you to laugh at the antics of orange kittens named Knife, celebrate adoptions, and be reminded that there is still a lot of good in the world.
But every once in a while, we need to talk about the side of rescue that people rarely see.
This is Puddles.
Sweet, sweet Puddles.
Puddles was found by a kindhearted person who simply didn’t know what to do and reached out for help on Facebook. Instead of support, she was met with criticism and rude comments. That’s not okay. When people are trying to help an animal in need, they deserve compassion, not judgment.
When our Director saw the post, she knew we had to try.
By chance, I had an opening in my office condo because Knife and Whisk have graduated to the big kitten room and are ready for adoption. So Puddles came to us.
We immediately got him veterinary care and started treatment.
And friends… he is sick.
Very sick.
He is painfully thin. He’s exhausted. His tiny body is fighting battles that no baby should ever have to fight. Every meal is a challenge. Every minute is a question mark.
But here’s the thing about Puddles.
He still purrs.
He still leans into pets.
He still looks at us with those little eyes and chooses to keep trying.
So we’re going to keep trying too.
I am doing everything humanly possible to save this little boy, and I will fight right alongside him with everything I’ve got.
Rescue isn’t always happy endings and adoption photos. Sometimes it’s syringe feedings, medications, sleepless nights, and desperately hoping that tomorrow is a little better than today.
Sometimes it’s falling in love with a kitten whose future you can’t predict.
And if I’m being honest, every time one of these cases comes through our doors, it takes a little more out of you emotionally than the last one.
So tonight, we’re asking for prayers, good vibes, positive thoughts, crossed fingers, lucky charms, and whatever else you’ve got.
For Puddles.
And maybe a little bit for the people who love him already.
