On Thursday, August 27 at 9:30 a.m., our Paladin martial arts students will celebrate a major milestone as they participate in their belt promotion ceremony with the incredible team at Southwest Academy of Kyokushinkai Karate.

***We’d love to invite members of our community to come watch, cheer them on, and celebrate their accomplishments!***

Martial arts is about so much more than learning techniques. It takes determination, practice, focus, and perseverance—and our students have been putting in the work.

This partnership has also created a beautiful sense of belonging. Shihan Dennis, Sensei Ted, and Sensei Jon volunteer their time each week to teach our students, and the dojo recently donated a karate gi to every one of our Paladin martial arts students. Each uniform came with a message reminding our students that they are supported, encouraged, and part of a larger martial arts family.

We are incredibly grateful to Southwest Academy of KyokushinKai Karate for believing in our students and showing them that they are seen, supported, and valued.

Unfortunately, severe weather caused significant damage throughout Lake County and at Wicker Park Golf Course, including downed trees, flooding, and unsafe conditions. Because of this, the Paladin Golf Outing scheduled for August 14 has been postponed.

We are disappointed, but incredibly grateful to the golfers, sponsors, and supporters who have already helped make this event possible.

We are currently working with the golf course to determine a new date in September. Please keep an eye out for updates as soon as details are confirmed.

🚨 IMPORTANT HEAD START PARENT ORIENTATION UPDATE 🚨

All Head Start Parent Orientation sessions scheduled for this week have been CANCELED.

The following replacement sessions have been scheduled:

📍 Niemann Elementary—Michigan City
• Monday, August 17, from 1:30–3:30 p.m.
• Tuesday, August 18, from 4:30–6:30 p.m.

📍 Bethany Lutheran Church—LaPorte
• Thursday, August 20, from 4:00–6:00 p.m.

Please plan to attend one of these required Parent Orientation sessions. Families can attend at either location, regardless of where their child is enrolled. More detailed information will be shared with families by email, so please continue checking your inbox for updates.

Paladin centers in LaPorte County and Lake County will be closed today due to widespread power outages in our communities.

🚨 URGENT CLOSURE & PARENT ORIENTATION UPDATE 🚨

All Paladin Head Start locations are CLOSED today, Wednesday, August 12. As a result, both Parent Orientation sessions scheduled for today have been CANCELED.

Additionally, Bethany Lutheran Church is expected to remain without power for the next several days. Due to the continued outage and significant storm damage throughout the LaPorte area, all LaPorte Parent Orientation sessions scheduled for this week are canceled.

New LaPorte orientation dates will be scheduled for next week once power has been restored and we know the area is safe for travel. Please watch your email for additional information and updates as we navigate these challenging circumstances.

At this time, the Parent Orientation scheduled for Thursday, August 13, from 3:00–5:00 p.m. at Niemann Elementary in Michigan City is still scheduled to take place. If unforeseen circumstances change that, we will notify you via email as well as here on our page.

The safety of our families and staff remains our highest priority. Our hearts are with everyone affected by these storms, and we are wishing you, your families, and our entire community continued safety and well-being. Please take good care of yourselves and one another. 💙
