Mentoring reduces absenteeism, boosts school engagement, and helps kids make healthier choices, but it starts with someone saying yes to an hour a week.

Happy National Cat Day from our two favorite furry staff members! 🐾🖤

Meet Ace and Benny, the resident cats of Family Advocates! These two sweet boys have an important (and very self-appointed) job: making everyone who walks through our doors feel a little more at home.

Kids, parents, visiting families, staff... Ace and Benny greet them all. They seem to have a sixth sense for when someone is feeling nervous or unsure, and somehow they always show up at just the right moment with a gentle head bump or a cozy spot on a lap.

They’re also experts in the ancient art of “if it fits, I sits.” Donation boxes, file trays, an empty tote... nothing is safe. And we wouldn’t have it any other way. They keep us laughing every single day!

So today, we’re celebrating our two little black cats with big hearts. 🖤🖤

CASA volunteers don't need a legal background, a certain career, or endless free time. They need to care, show up consistently, and speak up for a child who needs an advocate. That's it.

Right now, 23 children in La Porte County are waiting for a CASA. Many have had multiple caseworkers, placements, and schools.
A CASA is the one adult who stays. You don't need a law degree. You need to care, and to show up.

Emily serves as Assistant Director for the City of La Porte Park and Recreation Department and Foundation Liaison for the La Porte City Park Foundation. With a passion for building community connections, mentoring was a natural fit!
