Maurice Lucas Foundation

The Maurice Lucas Foundation was founded in honor of Maurice Lucas and his legacy of service to the Portland community.

Our mission: Teaching life lessons through education and sport. Throughout the year the Maurice Lucas Foundation partners with public and private schools to host our academies—sports-based, after school programs, weekend and summer camps, and educational retreats—all aimed at teaching life lessons and providing skill-building opportunities for low-income, at risk, and special needs youth. Our miss

ion is teaching life lessons through sport. We achieve this by combining things kids need in life—like classroom time—with things kids love—like sports—then bridging these two critical elements of a child's life with core values. We emphasize core values like respect, hard work, leadership, positivity, integrity during each day of our academies in both the classroom and on the court. The combination of the two begins to infuse positive influence in their lives.

We are incredibly grateful to Miller Nash for hosting a happy hour benefiting the Maurice Lucas Foundation in their Portland office!

Events like these help us continue our mission of empowering youth through academics, character development, physical activity, and community. Together with our families, educators, partners, and supporters, we are building a community of champions and creating transformational opportunities for students from middle school through high school and beyond.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and supported our work. Special thanks to David Lucas, Sheila Zachry, Todd Hanchett, and Jamaal Brown for representing the Foundation and sharing our mission with the community. ❤️

Big dreams start with exposure ✨

On Friday, our Maurice Lucas Foundation Middle School Academy students spent the day in Eugene touring the beautiful campus of University of Oregon - exploring college life, asking questions, and imagining what their futures can look like. 💚💛

Experiences like these help our students see that higher education is possible, attainable, and within reach. Thank you to everyone who helped make this inspiring day happen!

Huge congratulations to our very own Maurice Lucas Lady Enforcers standout, Love Lei Best, on being named the Gatorade Oregon Girls Basketball Player of the Year!

As part of the honor, Love Lei selected the Maurice Lucas Foundation to receive a $1,000 community grant through the Gatorade Player of the Year program, and we couldn’t be more grateful for her continued commitment to giving back to the next generation.

This award recognizes more than athletic excellence. It celebrates leadership, character, academics, and impact in the community - all things Love Lei embodies every day.

Thank you to Gatorade Player of the Year for investing in young athletes and organizations creating opportunities through sport. We’re proud to be part of Love Lei’s journey and excited to continue empowering youth on and off the court. ❤️
