Child Aid Each year Child Aid helps thousands of Guatemalan children learn to read, giving them a stronger voice and a fighting chance against poverty.

We believe that meaningful change happens through collaboration, not in isolation. Which is why Project Alianza’s education programs are becoming part of Child Aid. Working together opens new possibilities for communities:

Teachers trained in critical thinking instruction and literacy will gain access to digital tools that help them better respond to students’ learning needs.

Girls will be supported to develop their youth leadership skills and receive scholarship support as they transition into secondary school.

Local teachers and women leaders will continue driving initiatives rooted in their communities.

Together we are writing this new chapter with the courage to build something stronger together. Read more at www.projectalianza.org/childaid

Today, is DAFday! It is a day when donors across the country make contributions from their Donor-Advised Funds to the organizations and causes they care about most.

If you have a DAF, join the movement by making a donation to Child Aid! Your donation will help children across Guatemala by giving them access to the education they need to be strong young readers.

Help us fund their future by donating today. To make a contribution, visit https://child-aid.org/donate/donor-advised-funds/.

Have you heard the news!?! We are so excited to share this exciting new chapter with you.

Today is International Coffee Day, a day for celebrating the diversity, quality and uniqueness of this amazing plant and beverage.

Coffee is an important part of Guatemala's economy, culture and history. So we thought we would share a few fun facts about Guatemala's coffee industry.

As this patriotic month comes to an end, we wanted to look back at some of the festivities at Child Aid schools and offices celebrating Guatemalan Independence.

Our staff and schools celebrated with traditional song and dance and LOTS of blue and white. We love seeing the community come together for celebrations like this.

"Páginas leídas, ideas compartidas y mentes conectadas. Así vivimos nuestro Concurso de Lectura: una experiencia donde el mayor premio fue aprender juntos."

"Pages read, ideas shared, and minds connected. That is how we experienced our Reading Contest: an event where the greatest prize was learning together."

Congrats to all the participants and winners in the Paraje Xeaxjoj School in Totonicapán.

Language is a living expression of culture, identity and knowledge. Child Aid teachers embrace and celebrate the many native languages that students speak, and encourage them to read, write and share stories in the languages they grew up speaking. These students used the Child Aid writing process to create a story in Tzutujil, the Mayan language spoken in Santiago Atitlan.

Guatemala has 22 recognised Mayan languages, each with its own communities, history and present-day situation. Tzutujil is spoken by an estimated 100,000 plus Indigenous Guatemalans, most of which live around Lake Atitlan.

Greetings from San Francisco el Alto where teachers have just launched a new book club for fifth and sixth graders. This club is designed to give students the support they need to develop strong reading habits.

For those of you who have been following our account for a while, you will see a couple of favorite titles in this photo (Sergio salva el partido and Las jirafas no pueden bailar)- and a couple lesser known titles too! Has anybody read Guacamole? How about Pelo de Princesa? Fuera Vergüenza! Anybody? Leave us a comment below if you know these books - or even better write us a short review!
