Project Pooch Project POOCH provides life-changing opportunities for adjudicated youth and shelter dogs. Project POOCH, Inc.

Project POOCH has successfully paired hundreds of youth incarcerated at MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn, Oregon, with homeless shelter dogs since 1993. Youths (guided by professionals) learn to train the dogs, groom them, and find them new adoptive forever homes. The dogs leave the program ready to be great pets, while their trainers re-enter the community with new job and personal skills and increased compassion and respect for all life. is recognized by the IRS as a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization, Tax ID # 93-1252054 – donations are tax-deductible.

🍗🍖It’s dinner time at POOCH!🍖🍗

Austin has been enjoying his specially prepared meals from our youth team. They take pride in making a meal that he gobbles on up! One of the key ingredients is wet food, which is generously donated.

Unfortunately, we are running a little low. That’s where our community comes in: we would love your help restocking our pantry with wet food.

We accept donations at our Lake Oswego office, or you can hit up our wishlist! We appreciate all kinds of wet food here at POOCH. (Thankfully we are full for kibble right now!)

He's silly, he's sweet, he loves to play. He loves a good snuggle with his people once he gets to know you. He can be demanding; I mean, he is a Chihuahua after all. Asphalt definitely has a bit of little man syndrome, so he has to make sure everyone knows he's tough and can handle himself. He's learned a lot of skills while he has been at POOCH, and the youth are especially proud of teaching him to shake—which he freely offers up if he isn't sure what you want from him, just in case you do want him to shake, and will give him a treat. "Hey, you over there, I see you looking at me. I know I'm a handsome dude, especially in my bow tie. Are you looking for a cute, 4-legged buddy to share your life with? The folks at Project POOCH say I'm a really funny guy, and who doesn't want a bit of fun in their life? It's hard for me to type with my paws, so I'm going to pass it off to one of my 2-legged POOCH team now."

Asphalt, Asphalt, Asphalt—what can we say about our tiny little man? As he mentioned above, he's very funny. He loves to play with his toys; he's shown he can enjoy the company of other dogs, but he's also pretty content to rule the roost. Asphalt needs a human who will go slow with him. Someone who will give him the space and time to warm up and build trust. He's got that spicy chihuahua attitude when you try to force something on him (such as being picked up) if he isn't ready for it. But once you DO build trust with him, he'll be your best friend. He likes to sit in your lap or next to you while on the couch. He will happily sit in a bed or on a chair next to you while you work. He's a champ at walking on a leash and knows how to sit, shake, and twirl.
