Lakewood Hometown Heroes
Application

Hometown Heroes was started by the VFW auxiliary in 2021. The purpose of it was to honor our veterans’ past and present regardless of when and where they served. To be eligible the veteran must be from the Lakewood community to include Woodland, Sunfield, and Clarksville. The initial cost is $125 payable to the VFW Post 4461 Auxiliary. Payment must be received before the banner is ordered. The deadline for the application is 9/1/26. The following information is required.

VFW Auxiliary Post 4461 is once again accepting orders for military banners that will be displayed around Lake Odessa on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, a meaningful way to pay tribute to your hero.
Contact Deb Aldrich via Facebook or stop in to the Post located at 3600 w Tupper Lake the first and third Mondays of the month. While you are there you might as well join us for a game of Bingo!!

Today is Armed Forces Day.

This holiday is recognized annually on the third Saturday in May. Established in 1949, Armed Forces Day is meant to be a celebration of all military branches (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, National Guard, Navy and Space Force). It differs from Veterans Day in that it’s a day to honor those who are currently serving, and unlike Memorial Day the focus is on the living, not those lost. Each year, the White House releases an official proclamation of the day. In 2024, President Biden’s address read in part, “I call upon all Americans to display the flag of the United States at their homes and businesses on Armed Forces Day, and I urge citizens to learn more about military service by attending and participating in the local observances of the day.” (To read President Trump's proclamation, go to WhiteHouse.gov - it was not yet available as of the scheduling of this post.)

THE VOD AND PP BANQUET WAS HELD ON THRUSDAY, THE 7TH OF MAY AT THE VFW POST 4461.
THE VOD AND PP ARE ESSAYS THAT THE KIDS WRITE ABOUT PATRIOSIM, EACH YEAR IT IS ON A DIFFERENT THEME. THIS YEAR WAS *HOW ARE YOU SHOWING PATRIOTISM AND SUPPORT FOR OUR COUNTRY,
THE CRITERIA FOR PP IS 300-400 WORKS AND THE VOD IS 3-5 MINUTES RECORDED ON CD OR FLASH DRIVE.
THE 1ST PLACE WINNERS OF EACH ONE IN OUR POST GOES TO THE DISTRICT FOR JUDGING. THE DISTRIST WILL GIVE OUT CERTIFICATES OF PARTICIPATION WITH THE NUMBER ONE WINNER TO GO TO STATE FOR JUDGING.
