Grandpas can play such a special role in a child’s life. They can share wisdom, teach us new things, love us unconditionally, sneak us a little candy when no one’s looking, and sometimes be the soft, tender-hearted hands and feet of Jesus.

Sometimes, the lessons that stay with us the longest aren’t the ones spoken out loud, but the ones shown through a grandpa’s love, patience, and example.

What if this is one of the greatest gifts we can give another person?

To help them know they are loved—not because of what they accomplish, how they perform, or how well they have it all together—but simply because they are valuable.

And then to help them believe they are capable of loving others.

Sometimes people don’t need another lecture, correction, or reminder of what they’re doing wrong.

They need someone to see them. To listen. To believe in them. To offer grace. To remind them, “You are loved. And you have something to give.”

And apparently, every household has The Thermostat Debate.

Are you the: “Turn it up! I want my house warm and toasty so I can wear shorts in January!”

OR… “DON’T TOUCH THAT THERMOSTAT! Put on another wool sweater!”

Maybe you like your house warm enough to grow bananas, while your spouse prefers the Arctic Circle.
