Family of the Month – Alan & Tara Brodbeck

The Brodbecks have been visible in the community for many years and entered full communion with the church in 2020. The family may have joined the parish recently, but Alan, Tara, and their daughter, Marjorie, are active in many parish ministries. Tara teaches faith formation. Alan lectures, serves as an extraordinary minister, and facilitates OCIA sessions. Marjorie is an altar server and enjoys volunteering for grounds clean-up twice a year. Alan’s god daughter, Penelope, attends mass but doesn’t participate in ministry, yet. Alan looks forward to guiding her towards realizing God’s work in the years to come.

When Tara and Alan met, Alan was good friends with Tara’s brother. The couple started dating in their college years and were wed in South Haven in 2004. Tara and Alan received the sacrament of confirmation during COVID and Marjorie just received the same last year.

Alan’s family has valued community involvement ever since he can remember. You may notice the family’s involvement with Woodland Homecoming and the Community Christmas Baskets. The Brodbecks appreciate the opportunities parish ministry provides them to connect with the community-at-large. Alan, Tara, and Marjorie all enjoy the Knights of Columbus programs, especially the winter euchre tournaments, which give Alan an opportunity to show off his handy collection of gadget belt buckles.

Congratulations to the Brodbeck family as our Family of the Month!

Last month's Family of the Month - Greg and Carrie Haskin

Greg is a long-time parishioner of St. Edward. He grew up attending mass in our parish where he received all of the sacraments of initiation. Carrie also received the sacraments of initiation in our parish as an adult.

Carrie grew up in Greenville. The couple met on a dating website in 2007 and arranged their first date at Olivera's in Ionia. Carrie was so excited to meet Greg that she arrived early. The March Madness atmosphere at Olivera's was so maddening that she almost left. Luckily, Greg showed up on time and convinced her to stay and watch the Spartans win.

They were wed in 2009 by Fr. Victor at St. Edward. The couple live outside Woodland with their two charming and enormous dogs. Greg and Carrie often attend Saturday mass and have supported the parish ministry as extraordinary ministers, cantors, greeters, and serving on parish councils.

The couple is grateful to have participated in the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA). Even though Greg has been Catholic his entire life, he recognized an increase in his faith when he attended the program with Carrie. The presentation of church teaching and perspective of the OCIA instructors helped Carrie to connect the dots in her life to God's presence.

Thank you to the Haskin family for your testimony of faith!

Family of the Month - Frank & Sherry Agostinelli

The Frank and Sherry Agostinelli family is our Family of the Month. Sherry grew up in San Diego, California. The fifth child of nine, Sherry’s family moved a lot based on her father’s assignments with the U.S. Navy. Frank grew up in Montana, and moved to Michigan when he took up work managing hotels in Grand Rapids and Lansing.

Frank grew up in the Catholic Church. Sherry grew up protestant, but her faith experience with the Eucharist led her to enter full communion with the Church. In 2002, the couple was introduced by a friend at Frank’s hotel in Grand Rapids. That night Frank swept Sherry off her feet and onto the dance floor. They married in 2004 and joined Saint Edwards parish in 2008. As a couple, the Agostinelli’s credit the success of their marriage to the power of three, putting God first then each other.

The couple is retired and love supporting the church’s ministries. Sherry lets her servants heart guide her in ministry. She has worked as a school nurse, has led the children’s liturgy, volunteered for funeral luncheons, and supplied mass linens. Frank has taught Faith Formation and served on the Finance Council. Both support Worldwide Marriage Encounter as a program for married couples in the church.

Thank you, Frank and Sherry, for all you do!

You will often see Mike & Julie at Saturday mass. The couple celebrated 25 years of marriage this summer. They take pride in their three children, two of which are adopted, and several grandchildren. They also enjoy seeing the pews at Saint Edward the Confessor Catholic Church filled with young families.

Take some time to congratulate the Smith family for their recognition as Family of the Month!
