In further celebration of International Women's Month, Women’s Fund was proud to nominate Wanda Sobieski, who went on to become WATE TV's 2026 “Remarkable Woman” award winner last month—a true trailblazer whose impact continues to shape our community and beyond.

Wanda has called Knoxville home for more than 50 years. She achieved her Masters Degree and Law Degree from the University of Tennessee, she began her legal career with Howard Baker’s law firm, where she broke barriers as the first female partner. Wanda has spent decades paving the way for future generations of women in the legal profession and for female professionals as a whole.

Through her perseverance, leadership and passion for history, Wanda has helped preserve and elevate the story of women’s suffrage—locally and nationally. From co-founding the Suffrage Coalition to helping bring the Woman Suffrage Memorial to Market Square, her efforts ensure these stories are never forgotten.

Today, Wanda continues to make history. She and her team have secured two historic properties on Gay Street to establish the nation’s first dedicated suffrage museum—an interactive, immersive space that will honor the past while inspiring the future. Wanda is a force for good in Knoxville and beyond. 💛

Each of these incredible organizations is doing powerful work to help low-income women, girls, and their families across East Tennessee build stability, independence, and brighter futures. Their commitment to providing education and resources that break barriers and empower those they serve aligns deeply with our mission. The Women’s Fund 15th Anniversary Luncheon was a sold-out celebration and such a meaningful day with our friends, guests, sponsors, WFET Board Members, and 2025–2026 Grantees.

Sincere thanks to Melissa Isaacs for her leadership as Luncheon Chair, and to our dedicated Luncheon Committee for their outstanding work. We are also grateful to Demetrios Klonaris and Spaces in the City for creating such a wonderful setting.

We deeply appreciate the support of the Knoxville City and County Mayors, the Oak Ridge mayor, Knoxville leaders and dignitaries from across East Tennessee, and our partners at the University of Tennessee.

A special thank you to Dr. Marianne Hinds Wanamaker for her exceptional intelligence and insightful keynote that truly resonated with our mission.
And to Lori Tucker WATE TV—our longtime emcee, great friend of the Women’s Fund, and now a 2026 Board Member—thank you for bringing your energy and heart to this event year after year.

We are so grateful to everyone who came together to celebrate 15 years of our mission to uplift low-income women, girls, and their families across East Tennessee. ❤️

Today we celebrate the perseverance, power, and impact of women everywhere! 💜

The Women’s Fund of East Tennessee honors International Women’s Day. As we celebrate 15 years, we reflect on the impact of our belief that "when you invest in a woman, you invest in a family, a community, and ultimately a region.”

Supporting low-income women, girls, and their families fosters stronger futures, stronger economies, and stronger communities. Let’s continue to uplift, invest in, and champion women—today and every day.✨
