It's almost the last week of May, and that means we get to bring our community together for our monthly Let Her Write Story Circle!

We're so excited to host the incredible poet and book designer, Rachel Clift (.cliftpoetry), as our guest storyteller.

πŸ“š TOPIC FOR MAY: THE READER EXPERIENCE
plus a special *role-playing game* activity!

What does it feel like to be on the receiving end of a story? We often focus so much on the "writer’s craft" that we forget the magic ✨ happens in the space between the page and the person reading it.

For our May session of the Let Her Write Story Circle, we are diving deep into "The Reader Experience", exploring how our words land, how they are interpreted, and how a writer can curate a specific journey for their audience.

πŸ¦Έβ€β™€οΈ PLUS Introducing: Seeing the Superhero in You Collaborative Activity 🌟

After our guest storyteller, we’ll put these concepts into practice with a collaborative storytelling role-playing game. As a group, we will put our collective powers to work as we build a story fighting alongside other powerful superheroes.

This interactive exercise will put into practice the writing concepts we've covered throughout this series. Don't worry!! Even if this will be your first Let Her Write event - you won't be lost. It's designed to be inclusive for everyone.

Join us as we listen, learn, connect, and laugh with other women who are ready to be heard.

We'll see you there!

TOPIC FOR APRIL: CONNECTING YOUR STORIES TO YOUR WRITING

Every one of us has a "story vault" - a collection of personal experiences, observations, and inner truths. But the bridge between living a story and writing one can sometimes feel miles long. How do you take the raw material of your life and transform it into a story that resonates with a reader?

Join us for our next Let Her Write Story Circle, where we’ll explore the art of connecting your stories to your writing. This session is designed to help you dig into your personal archives and find the threads that give your work its unique heartbeat.

Whether you are working on a memoir, a series of poems, or simply trying to find more authenticity in your daily writing, come ready to bridge the gap between the story you live and the story you tell.

A few months ago, I shared a photo on LinkedIn of my infant daughter with me at a conference which got a lot more attention than any of my other posts.

At the time, she was too young to go to the same daycare as my son, which meant she got to come with me everywhere - or rather, I got to go everywhere with her.

A few weeks ago, both my kids were with me during our Let Her Write Story Circle while my husband was out of town for a conference.

And today, although I could have dropped her off at daycare with my son, I wanted her to accompany me to the Go Red for Women luncheon for the American Heart Association.

When I became a mom, I knew every aspect of my life would change, but I also saw it as an opportunity to rewrite the "expectations" and to refuse to accept the status quos I find unacceptable.

One of those is showing up as a mother.

Because you know what?

Showing up as a mother, I can hold meetings.

Showing up as a mother, I can forge new connections.

Showing up as a mother, I can participate in social events.

Showing up as a mother, I can lead.

I know the data showing the biases, barriers, and setbacks women in the workforce face when they become mothers.

Many feeling that they have to hide their motherhood for fear of being passed over for promotions or becoming the default "mom" in their department.

This issue is bigger than any of us, but it's never going to change if we don't challenge it.

So let's challenge it.
