We’re excited to welcome Amanda Churchill, a talented local Texas author, as our guest speaker!

Her debut novel, The Turtle House, draws inspiration from the remarkable life of her grandmother, a Japanese war bride, weaving history, family, and resilience into a beautiful story.

Join us for lunch and a great meeting on Tuesday, September 8 at Noon at Sky Creek Ranch.

Here's an update on our Club's Youth Exchange student from Rotarian Sean Raich, the first family host dad:

Benedetta (goes by "Benni") has been actively acclimatizing to life in the great state of Texas. Her biggest shock so far is how hot it is outside and how incredibly cold it is inside everywhere, the transitions have been challenging. She began her trip with the first exposure to true Mexican street tacos and an understanding that “mild” may be just a bit more than she was used to. She had the opportunity to experience our mega stores seeing super Walmart, Target and Kroger and being surprised at how so many large stores can be right next door to each other. Registering for classes and then attending 6A Keller High School with so many different people has been eye-opening to the true diversity of the United States. She had the opportunity to make a trip across the Metroplex to have authentic Chinese Dim Sum in Plano and experienced her first giant traffic overpass. She felt the need to record the experience to share with her friends back home. She attended a Texas Rangers game at Globe life field and was absolutely floored by the size of the field and the overwhelmingness of AT&T stadium right next door. Thanks to connections she had great seats and got to meet some of the Six Shooters. It was also her first time to eat Texas brisket. She got an evening trip up to Sanger where she was able to tour a hill top 31,000sf home overlooking lake Roy Roberts and topped it off in a small Texas eatery in the Sanger town square. “This is what I imagined when I thought of Texas!”

NOW is the time to recruit outbound students and host families for 2027-28. Info and applications can be found at https://rotary5790.org/sitepage/youth-exchange-1
