Changing Lenses, Changing Lives

Changing Lenses, Changing Lives Our vision is to ensure that children in developing nations have their basic health and educational needs met.

Changing Lenses, Changing Lives (CLCL) strives to ensure that children in developing countries have their basic welfare and education needs met though funding projects and individual sponsorships. We believe these children need access to health care to ensure they are healthy; electricity or solar lamps, so they can study at home; sanitary supplies for girls, so they can attend school regularly; and books, so they can read and learn like their wealthier counterparts.

This week we were privileged to visit three of our primary schools where we have feeding programs. The children entertained us with dance routines, poetry, and songs. From the smallest nursery school babes to the adolescent junior secondary students we were enthralled with their skills and discipline. We distributed solar lamps to the ninth graders, so they have light to study for their national end-of-junior-secondary-school exams; gave soccer balls and other sports equipment for their P.E. classes; and toothbrushes and toothpaste for everyone.

For the first time, we played activities with all the children. We could not decide if the children or the team had more fun, but we definitely knew which group was more exhausted 😰😅 After activities, we had the privledge of helping serve lunch to our kids. It was fun to see the food we purchase go to energizing their beautiful souls. Asante sana (thank you very much ) to everyone who contributed to our trip and to our food program! ♥️🖤💚🇰🇪

We visited Ntumburi Primary Day and Boarding school on Sunday. CLCL boards 14 of our primary school students here. We were met by the headteacher, Agnes, and given a tour of the school. In the 11 years that we have been supporting the school, many positive changes have been made. In 2022, CLCL built and stocked a library. The school has added computers, enabling the students to keep up with technology. We donated over 100 books to the library. They have been well used, and the school decidedly needs more new books! In 2024, a CLCL donor donated funds to build girls’ restrooms. We also saw improvements that have been made to the girls showers the pathways, and the dorms. After our tour, we joined the students in their assembly hall to hear the local pastor preach. After the services, the children performed for us. The schools dance teams are nothing short of incredible! They even brought our team forward and taught us a dance. Lucky for us, we were able to laugh at ourselves, and the students seemed to enjoy seeing us make fools of ourselves! it was a fabulous day!

Our first full day in Meru was spent with our children at our sponsored kids day. It was an incredible day, where we gave our children backpacks filled with solar lamps, soap, toilet paper, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and other toiletries. They also got seven pairs of underwear, a Changing Lenses Changing Lives T-shirt, cards and letters from their sponsors, friendship bracelets made by one of our sponsors, and a lunch prepared for them by Kenyan ladies. A highlight of the day was the creation of a vision board upon which every child placed a note with a dream for their life. It was inspiring to see how much all our kids loved participating. The day was a smashing success! Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this day special!

We all made it to Kenya safely! We faced flight cancellations, flight delays (causing missed connections and an unplanned night in Frankfurt), and some missed luggage. Despite it all, we are all here, safe, and enjoying the beautiful people and places of our beloved Kenya!

Now we are in Meru, getting ready to spend the day with our precious sponsored children! Asante sana (thank you very much) to everyone who helped support the day! Look for pics of the day tomorrow!!!
