Supportive housing program for women and children in recovery. Since opening its doors in 2000, Amethyst Place has served over 900 women and children.

After more than two decades of transforming lives and healing generations, we believe our work is more than a mission; it’s a noble cause. We inspire transformational healing and empower generations of women and children to achieve recovery, reunification, and resilience. Each year, we provide nearly 200 women and children in Kansas City with truly comprehensive, family-centered care to help them overcome the interconnected cycles of poverty, trauma, and substance use to achieve multi-generational impact. Each of our residents is provided with furnished apartment space, therapy, case management, financial assistance, a variety of classes, recovery coaching sessions, and other programs to build up their life skills, self-confidence, and relationship/social skills.

At Amethyst Place, we're looking for someone ready to turn lived experience in recovery into meaningful impact for mothers and children.

More than a traditional recovery coaching role, our Family Empowerment Coaches work as part of a collaborative team to provide individualized recovery support, strengthen family relationships, connect families with resources, and help mothers and children work toward their personal, educational, and financial goals.

💰 $50,000–$53,000 annually

What a way to close out National Recovery Month. 💜

This year, 7 Amethyst Place staff members and 13 moms attended the Annual Peer Summit, joining Peer Support Specialists from across Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska to connect, learn, grow and celebrate the power of lived experience.

Family Empowerment Manager Mollee B. Flores shared what it meant to see so many women from the Amethyst Place community there:

“Being able to watch the next generation of Peer Support Specialists and leaders grow from within the Amethyst Place community is incredible. These women are taking their lived experiences and turning them into something that will impact so many others. Five are already out there doing the work, and more are right behind them.

These women are going to change the world.”

From lived experience to leadership. From receiving support to becoming the person who offers it to someone else.

That’s recovery, too. 💜

BLOOM looked beautiful on our families. 🌸

Saturday was full of celebration as we recognized Amethyst Place moms and children for the milestones they’ve reached over the past year. We’re still smiling thinking about the families walking across that stage, hearing their names and accomplishments read aloud, and having a room full of people cheering them on.

Bloom: is one of our favorite days of the year because we get to celebrate Amethyst Place families and everything they’ve worked toward over the past year, surrounded by the people who are cheering them on.

Long before our campus expansion became a reality, Travois was helping us imagine what could be possible.

When Amethyst Place began exploring how we could create more homes for families, Travois helped connect us with the development partners who could help move that vision forward. Their commitment didn’t end there. Through years of support and continued board service, they’ve remained part of our growth and our community.

“My favorite memory will always be the welcome home and the relief that my children and I finally had a chance to overcome…together. ALL OF US.” — Jessica

Since coming home to Amethyst Place, Jessica says her family has come so far. Some of her favorite moments are simple ones: getting out in nature, exploring Kansas City together and having the hard conversations that help them grow as a family.

Jessica has also found ways to pour into the community around her, including facilitating meetings for other women on campus. Next, she hopes to earn her social work degree and build a career doing work she loves.

Her motivation through it all? Her children, becoming the best version of herself, and being able to give others the same feeling of being loved, valued and seen that she has found along the way.

This National Recovery Month, we celebrate Jessica and her family, and all they’re building together. 💜
