We have some materials one may describe as non-traditional sewing materials available for all contestants to shop for this week's challenge. There is foam, magazines, mop heads, nitrile gloves, tissue paper, plastic bags, wrapping paper, and all of the shoulder pads you can imagine.

Make the costumes to whatever size you want. We will make sure to display it as best we can. There needs to be some sewing, but a hot glue gun is also your friend. You can use fabric to create a base and then sew on your non-traditional materials overtop.

We hope this clarifies some questions and sparks ideas!

Candy deserves a cute bag. We don’t make the rules.

Come sew a jack-o’-lantern tote for your Halloween haul! You’ll learn to add its face with fabric appliqué, sew the bag, and attach handles ready for candy duty.

This workshop welcomes beginners ages 7 and up, including adults. You’re never too old for a pumpkin bag. Or the candy you bought “for the trick-or-treaters.” Word on the street that there may be candy for munching during the class.

It's Week 3 of The Greater Kansas City Stitch Off, and this week it's all about Avant Garde!

The contestants will be sewing a costume made with non-traditional sewing materials. Who says you have to use fabric when you are sewing? Sometimes you need a costume, and you have to work with what you got at home. Get ready to see the contestants stretch their imagination to find new materials to sew. The Sewing Labs has gathered some materials for this challenge and are available for shopping during the week.

Plus, we want contestants to have plenty of time to give us a showstopper moment for our Runway Finale, so we are releasing most of the prompt early! Contestants will be making an evening wear look for a model to walk the runway at The Greater Kansas City Stitch Off Finale. Contestants can pick their model or work with some of our models to walk your design.
