It has been a crazy busy weekend here at the rescue. Saturday I made a trip to Concordia, MO to pick up a sulcata tortoise named Jack and bring him back to the rescue.

Sunday, a new insulated shed for Rocky was delivered and set in place by Bob F. and his son. Bob built the shed from the ground up and even put electricity in it for heat and lights. We can’t thank the Fuller’s enough for their hard work, time and for supporting our rescue in such a meaningful & generous way! Rocky‘s going to be living in style now.

This evening, two young boys named Braxton and Bentley adopted a Hermann’s Tortoise named Hazel. They will have the help of their mother as they navigate being tortoise owners. They seem dedicated to learning all they can and to providing Hazel with a great home.

The owner has said he is willing to drive up to 10 hours from the St. Louis area, to deliver him to the proper, knowledgeable and loving home. I received this wonderful guide, dedicated to sharing locations of zoos, nature centers, rehabilitation and rescue organizations, aquariums, and many many other places and organizations dedicated to helping our shelled friends. It’s a great resource for anybody who loves turtles and tortoises. I spoke to the author a while back and today I received a book in the mail from him. And I am so grateful. One of our favorite things is to get updates from people who have adopted our tortoises. Henry continues to thrive and do well with his forever family. He is getting so big and he’s absolutely beautiful. I am grateful for his adopters for giving him such a great home and a good life.
