The $5.7-million East Riverwalk is already grabbing the attention of developers as it reaches about 70% completion.

It was a busy day of construction work at the East Riverwalk. You can see the rendering is beginning to become reality.

The map shows the full vision of the Currents of Kankakee connecting the East Riverwalk along the river to and through Legion Park, Alpiner Park and Fisherman’s Park to the pedestrian bridge connecting to Riverside and the existing trail system to the north.

In advance of the Kankakee River Valley Regatta on Labor Day weekend the Currents of Kankakee Clean Up team was in action at Kankakee Valley Park District’s Beckman Park. Thanks to this awesome team for gathering litter, cleaning playground equipment, spreading wood chips, pulling weeds and painting benches and tables.

Our next clean up will be Sept. 5th 9 to 11am at Alpiner Park. Join us!

Did you realize what the boathouse looked like from above?!? Yes, those mosaic designs are laid in the concrete roof.

Part of what will make this first phase of the Currents of Kankakee Riverwalk unique is it being a brand new destination combined with a preserved historic structure that is now almost 100 years old.
