📸 Yesterday our Board Chair, Sarah B. Stephens, brought the ENERGY to Kankakee’s ECDA Neighborhood Cookout!

She jumped right in, connecting with families, sharing resources, and making sure folks knew about the support available not just in Kankakee County, but across Illinois.

Events like this are what community is all about. When leaders show up, when organizations collaborate, when families feel seen and supported, that’s when real impact happens.

Huge shoutout to ECDA for creating such a vibrant, welcoming space.

Here’s to more connection, more access, and more moments that move our communities forward. 💛

Living out our mission...advocating with kindness❤️

💜There's a moment that changes everything.

It's not a medication. It's not a diagnosis. It's the moment someone living with dementia laughs...really laughs....because someone sat down, looked them in the eye, and said "tell me your story".

Purpose doesn't disappear with memory. Joy doesn't require a perfect mind. And no one — no one — should spend their days feeling invisible.

We show up so they never have to wonder if anyone will. 💜

Thank you to Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow for taking the time to discuss the needs of Will County and how we rolled out program in Kankakee County.

Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow recently met with Our Aging Services CEO/President Leslee Schafer and Co-Founder/Vice-President Megan Turner about the safety initiative that is designed to support individuals with dementia, autism, developmental disabilities, PTSD, mental illness, or other communication challenges during interactions with law enforcement. The brightly colored packet contains essential documents — driver’s license, vehicle registration, emergency contacts, and communication notes — so officers immediately understand that the individual may need extra time, sensory-aware communication, or simplified instructions.

➡️ PURPOSE: To improve safety and communication between law enforcement and individuals with, for example, autism or dementia.

➡️ HOW IT WORKS: Drivers place their license, insurance, and registration inside the specialized blue envelope.

➡️ OFFICER ALERT: The envelope acts as a visual aid to help officers understand that the driver may need extra time or specific accommodations.

Most families don’t realize how many resources may already be available to their loved one until they’re in the middle of a crisis.

Whether it’s Medicaid guidance, transition planning, long-term care support, or disability resources, navigating it all alone can feel overwhelming.

Our Aging Services exists to help families understand their options before the stress becomes unmanageable. Sometimes peace of mind starts with simply having someone walk alongside you.

💙 Huge thank you to State’s Attorney Jim Rowe’s Community Division for hosting this month’s Mobile Senior Fair at the Bradley Library.

Events like this make it easier for our older adults to connect with resources, ask questions, and feel supported.

Grateful for the partnership, the teamwork, and the heart behind today’s fair. Our community is stronger because of collaborations like this.

Have you found yourself reminding your parent to take medications more often lately, or noticing unopened mail piling up on the kitchen counter?

Those small changes are usually the first sign that extra support may be needed, even if your loved one still seems mostly independent.

Our Aging Services helps families understand what resources, care options, and supports may be available before things become overwhelming.
