Welcome the Pointer family to Jonesboro!

Jonesboro Public Schools is excited to welcome Kennedy Pointer and Marquise Pointer to the JPS family!

Kennedy Pointer will serve as the Annie Camp Jr. High Volleyball Coach, Assistant Girls Track & Field Coach, and Teacher.

Kennedy has competed and coached at every level and brings elite experience to our student-athletes.

Playing Career – College of Charleston (2015–2019)
• Four-time All-CAA selection
• 2018 AVCA All-American
• Ranks 9th in program history in kills (1,412)
• Ranks 10th in total points (1,593.5) and block assists (253)
• Recorded 300+ kills in three seasons
• 6th-best single-season kills total in program history (459 in 2018)

Recently inducted into the College of Charleston Volleyball Hall of Fame!

After her playing career, Kennedy stayed at the College of Charleston as an assistant coach before teaching and coaching in the Charleston County School District. She coached volleyball for two seasons at Lucy Beckham High School. Most recently, she was named the 2025 SCISA Region 4A Coach of the Year.

Marquise Pointer is returning home to join the sidelines at MacArthur as a coach and teacher.

A former Hurricane standout, Marquise helped lead Jonesboro to the 2014 State Championship (30-3 record) and is the ONLY player in JHS history to play in four state championship games.

• Ranked No. 35 Point Guard in the Nation by ESPN Recruiting
• Played at the College of Charleston
– Played in all 31 games as a freshman (18 starts)
– Averaged 11.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists
– 2nd on team in assists (89)
– CAA All-Rookie Team
– Team Sixth Man & Best Defensive Player
– 2019 NCAA Tournament First Round Appearance

After college, Marquise moved into coaching and most recently served as the Head Coach at Lucy Beckham High School.

We’re excited to welcome Dasia Young to our staff! Dasia will be an assistant for the Lady Hurricane Basketball Team and teach Computer Science at the High School.

Dasia was a standout multisport athlete and an exceptional student through high school. She finished her academic and athletic career at the University of Utah, competing at the Division I level in basketball. While at Utah, she helped her team win a Pac-12 Conference Championship and reach the Sweet 16. She also earned Dean’s List honors for academic excellence from 2022–2023 with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, graduating with a degree in Psychology.

She recently completed a season playing professionally in France, and we are thrilled to have her bring that experience to our campus. Dasia will be teaching Computer Science at Jonesboro High School and will serve as an assistant girls basketball coach under Coach Smith, who she played for at Nettleton.

A 13-year-old has officially accepted his admission to Morehouse College, making him younger than Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was when he entered the prestigious HBCU at age 15.

Joshua Suddith received over 20 college acceptance letters from across the country, but his heart was set on Atlanta. By 18 months old, Joshua was already a fluent reader.

By age three, he became a published author before even setting foot in a kindergarten classroom. "Morehouse builds leaders," Joshua said. "Knowing that Dr. King walked these same halls at 15 makes me feel like I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be at 13."

Joshua plans to dive into a curriculum that challenges his advanced capabilities while embracing the brotherhood Morehouse is known for.
