The NEA MLK Jr. Day Parade Committee is honored to announce Shamal C. Carter, MPH as our 2026 Grand Marshal.
Shamal Carter is a devoted father, grandfather, and community servant whose lifeโs work reflects a deep commitment to justice, service, and lifting others. Guided by faith, family, and a belief in collective responsibility, he has dedicated decades to strengthening communities across Northeast Arkansas.
A graduate of Wynne High School, Mr. Carter earned his undergraduate degree in General Education from John Wesley University and also attended Arkansas State University. For more than 15 years, he has served in the nonprofit sector supporting individuals and families through mental health and community programming. His experience includes serving as a mental health case manager, a substance misuse recovery specialist, and currently as a youth engagement coordinator.
Mr. Carter also served two terms as President of the Craighead County NAACP, leading with presence, accountability, and community empowerment. His advocacy and service have been recognized across the region, including:
