Jonesboro City Water & Light is responding to an equipment failure affecting electrical service to buildings west of Caraway Road on the A-State campus.

A-State Facilities Management is checking backup generators in buildings where they are available as CWL works to restore service.

Cities across Arkansas are discontinuing their use of Flock cameras. However, Jonesboro will still be utilizing the technology. KASU reporter, Lexie Burns, spoke with Rick Elliot, the Chief of Police for the City of Jonesboro. He says the city has 55 active Flock cameras. He explained that the police department doesn't have the manpower to monitor every car that the Flock cameras see. Instead, when there are active cases, that is when the cameras are most useful. The Red Cross's "Joined by Blood" Sickle Cell Initiative is underway. KASU reporter, Lexie Burns, spoke with Wendy Stotts. She is an Account Manager with the Red Cross Missouri Arkansas Blood Services Region. Stotts says they are asking for more people from the Black community to donate blood. Artificial Intelligence is becoming integrated into many aspects of school, work, and life. KASU reporter, Lexie Burns, spoke with Dr. H. Steve Leslie, a professor of business communications, the dean for faculty affairs, and the director of internship at A-State. He recently gave a presentation about how to best prepare graduates to be AI- literate. However, he also emphasized the importance of retaining human skills, such as empathy and critical thinking. The Jonesboro Human Development Center (JHDC) will be holding a Halloween Walk, Run Roll-a-thon fundraiser. The JHDC is a residential facility that is dedicated to providing comprehensive care and support to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. KASU reporter, Lexie Burns, spoke with Cynthia Wilson, an HR specialist with the JHDC. She says the fundraiser will help to support that mission and provide the best care possible. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, in 2023 Arkansas had a veteran su***de rate of 51.5 per 100,000 veterans. This was well above the national average of 35.2 per 100,000. During this Su***de Prevention Month, KASU reporter, Lexie Burns, spoke with Jana Haskins, the director of the Beck Center for Veterans at A-State, and Johnathon Mullins, the leader of A-State' Student Veterans Association. They say mental health among veterans is nuanced. Often times veterans unique lived experiences make it difficult to find appropriate care. However, if they are struggling, mental health is something veterans should prioritize. A link to the full conversation is available in the comments.
