BINGO - Friday @ 6:30 PM (KITCHEN OPENS @ 5:00 PM)

Veteran’s Benefits – As a veteran, you have probably seen TV ads or received E-mails and phone calls from companies that claim they can start or increase your VA disability rating. This is a huge rip-off! They will charge you a large percentage of any future benefits you may have earned. Also, they don’t tell you that this service is provided free from the VFW Service Officers. Contact VFW Service Officers Troy Williams @ 573-814-6007 or Mike Schroeder @ 573-814-6007. Legislative bills are moving through the state and federal congress to outlaw these “Claim Sharks”.

Congratulations to our Post 1003 Auxiliary who will celebrate their 100th Anniversary on April 14th! Our Auxiliary has provided a tremendous amount of time and funds to support veterans, their families and our community. Without the Auxiliary’s aid and assistance Post 1003 would have a very difficult time to achieve our goals.

Honor Guard: April 23th at 6:00 PM the Honor Guard will hold its quarterly social and training meeting.

Attention all members: VFW Post 1003 will hold its election for Post officers at the April 16th meeting.

Every Wednesday, DAV Chapter 17, located at 5054 Monticello Rd. holds a free Veteran’s Coffee Talk. All veterans are invited to enjoy coffee with biscuits and gravy while they swap stories about their military service, politics, and grandkids. Starts at 9:00 AM and ends when they run out of coffee.

Post 1003 has almost completed all the requirements to be honored as an All State Post. We just need a couple more members. We have funds to offer annual members 50% off if they sign up as a Life member. For new eligible active duty personal (includes National Guard) we offer the first year annual dues free or 50% off the life member fee.

Alcohol Awareness Month - Did you know, about 178,000 people die from excessive drinking each year. That is about 488 deaths a day or 20 people an hour. Excessive alcohol use is a leading preventable cause of death in the United States. There is hope. Help is available. Contact Jon for help connecting to care (573) 418-0051.

Whole Health – It Starts with Me The VA’s Whole Health program supports your health and well-being. Set health and well-being goals based on your needs and what matters to you. Whether you want to wake up with less pain, change careers, reduce stress, or move more, start by talking with your VA health care provider about the Whole Health program.

BINGO - Friday @ 6:30 PM (KITCHEN OPENS @ 5:00 PM)

February was not a very newsworthy month as far as new Post and Auxiliary events occurred. However, we continue to work on our common goals. to support our common of supporting veterans.

The annual Buddy Poppy donation drive is coming up at the end of May and we’ll be looking for volunteers to help. This is the biggest annual fundraiser our Post and Auxiliary holds every year and provides the money needed to support our fellow veterans. Upcoming events will include the Student Awards Program, Buddy Poppy fund drive and all of our continuing support programs.

March 26 will be the 12th year anniversary of the Post 35/1003 merger and it’s working extremely well for our Post, Auxiliary, veterans and community. We have donated thousands of dollars and volunteer hours to support our fellow veterans and community and we earned many VFW state and national awards for our efforts. Thanks to the Post and Auxiliary members who work to make these things happen.

Post 1003 is again leading the way in the VFW state competition on veterans and community service projects which will support our earning the “All State” award. When a Post earns “All State” this shows that the Post and Auxiliary are working together to make things happen! We’ll do it again!

Every Friday at 4:00 PM we have a VFW Service Officer available during the Bingo games to provide information and help on how to apply for your veteran’s benefits. There are a lot of medical, education, and financial support programs available to veterans and their families so get a copy of your DD214 and come out to the Post. Don’t have a copy of your DD214? We can help you get one.

Please note the new contact information for the Post Commander.
