Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Missouri

10/08/2026

💙 Today, we’re celebrating some of the heroes who are always in our corner!

This National Hero Day, we’re giving a special shoutout to our incredible law enforcement friends who support Special Olympics Missouri and our athletes all year long. 🚔🔥

From carrying the Flame of Hope to volunteering, fundraising and cheering on our athletes, your dedication to inclusion makes a lasting impact.

Thank you for being champions for our athletes and for SOMO! 🫶

We are shouting a great big THANK YOU to the Kansas City Missouri Police Department for hosting the very first SOMO Athlete Citizen's Police Academy this past weekend. Around 20 athletes took part and learned all about police work, talked with SWAT members, met a K9, did some crime scene activities, toured a police station, did some training in the mat room, and learned about abuse and internet safety. At the end they graduated and received their KCPD Police Academy diplomas. It was an incredible weekend, filled with many great memories and we cannot wait to do it again!
