The Association of Pediatric Surgical Nurses (APSNA) invites all members to attend our 35th Annual Business Meeting.

This annual meeting is an important opportunity to:

Review APSNA's accomplishments and progress over the past year
Receive updates regarding the Journal of Pediatric Surgical Nursing
Welcome and announce incoming members of the Board of Directors
Participate in discussion and voting regarding a proposed amendment to APSNA Bylaws

Proposed Bylaws Amendment – Section 6.3

The APSNA Board of Directors has reviewed and approved a proposed amendment to Section 6.3 regarding qualifications for Board members.

Current Language:
Members of the Board must be Active Members and have been Active Members for two (2) consecutive years prior to assuming office and must not have previously served as a Past President of the Corporation.

Proposed Language:
Members of the Board must be Active Members and must not have previously served as a Past President of the Corporation. Preference will be given to candidates who have been Active Members for at least two (2) years prior to assuming office; however, such prior membership will no longer be required.

Member Feedback

We recognize that a quorum may not be achieved during the Annual Meeting. However, member feedback remains extremely important.

In accordance with APSNA Bylaws, Active Members who are unable to attend the meeting may submit their support, comments, or objections regarding the proposed amendment at least seven (7) days prior to the meeting.

April is the National Child Abuse Prevention Month dedicated to raising awareness, strengthening families, and preventing child maltreatment. Prevention begins by ensuring families have access to the support, resources, and connections they need—before challenges turn into crises.

This April, take action to prevent distracted driving.

We all have a role to play in keeping our roads—and our patients—safe:

• Commit to distraction-free driving – Put phones away and set navigation before you go
• Model safe behavior – Especially for children and young drivers
• Educate others – Share the risks with patients, families, and your community
• Support awareness efforts – Get involved in local and national initiatives

Preventable injuries impact the pediatric population every day. By raising awareness and leading by example, we can help protect children, families, and communities—on and off the road.

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

Distracted driving is a leading cause of traffic accidents—and it’s entirely preventable.

In 2024 alone, it claimed 3,208 lives and left more than 315,000 people injured in the United States.

And it’s not just texting.
Distracted driving includes anything that takes your attention off the road:
• Using your phone
• Adjusting navigation
• Eating or multitasking while driving

This is a critical health and safety issue that impacts our communities every day.

Let’s start by recognizing the risk—and committing to safer habits behind the wheel.

World Pediatric Surgical Day brings global awareness to ensure equity in surgical care of children.

World Pediatric Surgery Day is observed annually to recognize the important work of pediatric surgeons and the multidisciplinary teams who care for children requiring surgical care. It is a time to highlight advocacy, education, and the ongoing commitment t improving surgical outcomes for children worldwide.

Our Pediatric Surgery teams play a vital role in providing high-quality, compassionate care to our patients and families every day. This day is a meaningful opportunity to acknowledge that work and the collaboration across nursing, providers, and support staff that makes it possible.
