Have you ever felt like your grief created spiritual mayhem inside you?

When your child dies, even the faith you have held onto for years can feel shaken. Questions come. Confusion comes. Anger may come. You may find yourself wondering what you believe anymore and trying to make sense of something that feels impossible to understand.

In this episode of the Grieving Parents Sharing Hope Podcast, I sit down with my new friend Becky Russell, a bereaved mom who lost her daughter Jaylen in a tragic car accident. Becky and I talk honestly about what happened to her faith after Jaylen died and what it means to experience a disorientation of faith in the midst of grief.

We begin exploring four foundational parts of our worldview: origin, morality, meaning, and destiny, and how what we believe about these things can deeply affect the way we process the death of our child. Because grief doesn't just affect our hearts. It can cause us to wrestle with the very foundation of how we understand life, God, and eternity.

You don't have to be afraid of the questions. You don't have to pretend your faith hasn't been shaken. And you don't have to have everything figured out today. Sometimes, hope begins with simply remembering this: God is with us all the time, and all the time, God is with us.

Even when we don't understand. Even when we can't feel Him. Even when our hearts are asking questions we never imagined we'd have to ask, He is still with us.

If you're walking through the spiritual side of grief, I hope you'll listen to “Spiritual Mayhem” and join Becky and me for this honest conversation. And come back next week for Part 2 as we continue talking about meaning and destiny, two questions that can become especially profound after the death of a child.

Follow GPS Hope for more encouragement on your unwanted journey of child loss. If you know another grieving parent who may be wrestling with questions about faith, please share this episode with them.

Our children are not just “in a better place.” They are fully alive in a reality we can barely begin to imagine.

If you’re a grieving parent, I know there are moments when words like these can feel both comforting and impossible to grasp. We miss their laughter. Their voice. Their presence. We long for the day when the distance between here and there is no longer something we have to endure.

But our children’s story did not end when their earthly life ended. They are alive. They are whole. They are held in a reality far greater than anything we can see from here. ❤️

And until the day we see them again, we keep learning how to carry the love, the grief, and the hope together.

If this speaks to your heart, follow GPS Hope for encouragement and hope for the journey through child loss. And please share this with a grieving parent who may need this reminder today.

September can be a difficult month for a grieving parent.

Sometimes it is the changing of the seasons. Sometimes it is a birthday, an anniversary, or a memory that seems to surface out of nowhere. And sometimes there is no reason at all. Grief simply feels heavier on certain days.

As a bereaved mom, I know how difficult it can be to find words when your heart is hurting. I also know how much it can mean to have someone gently remind you that even in the deepest darkness, hope can still exist.

That is why I created Reflections of Hope.

The September Edition offers a daily reflection for the grieving parent who is simply trying to make it through another day. Not to fix your grief. Not to tell you that everything happens for a reason. But to sit with you in the sorrow and gently remind you that you are not alone.

Whether your loss happened recently or you have been carrying the ache for years, I pray these words bring you a little comfort, a little encouragement, and perhaps a glimmer of hope when you need it most.

Because our children are forever loved.

And even though we will always grieve them, we can learn to carry both the sorrow and the hope.

I’m honored to walk this journey with you.

I have been thinking about heaven in a way I never had before, and I wanted to share it with you. As I was responding to a grieving parent, the Lord gently opened my heart to a perspective that brought me unexpected comfort. It did not take away the ache of missing my child, but it reminded me that God’s promises are deeper and more personal than I sometimes remember.

I wrote this blog because I know many of you are carrying that same ache. I pray it brings a little hope to your heart today. Click to continue reading, and if these words encourage you, I would be honored if you followed our page and subscribed so we can continue walking this journey together.

If you’ve lost a child, you know there are some things words simply cannot explain. There is a kind of grief that can only truly be understood by someone who has lived it.

We know what it feels like to wake up to another day without our child. We know the ache that follows us into birthdays, holidays, family gatherings, and ordinary moments. We know what it is to wish we could hear their voice again, hold them again, or simply have one more ordinary day together.

But what if heaven is just as difficult for us to comprehend as our grief is for someone who has never lost a child?

Our children know something we don’t.

They don't have to wonder what heaven is like anymore. They know.

And believing that doesn't mean we stop missing them. It doesn't mean the pain disappears. It doesn't mean we're supposed to feel guilty because we still desperately wish they were here.

We can have hope and sorrow at the same time. We can rejoice that our child is with Jesus and still ache because they aren't here with us. We can trust God and still have questions. We can experience peace in our spirit while our soul is still hurting.

I've learned that God doesn't ask us to choose between hope and grief. He meets us right in the middle of both.

So if you're having one of those days when you miss your child more than words can express, I want you to know this: You don't have to explain your grief to me. I understand. ❤️

If you've been struggling with questions about heaven, faith, or where your child is, I hope this episode brings you a little comfort and reminds you that you can bring those questions to God. You don't have to have everything figured out before you can trust His heart.

If you think another grieving parent might need these words today, please share this episode with them. And if you’re not already following or subscribed, I’d love for you to join me as we continue walking this journey together.

Every time I read a message like this, I am reminded that none of us were meant to walk this journey alone.

When I wrote Reflections of Hope, I was not trying to offer quick answers or tell anyone how to grieve. I simply wanted to place a small seed of hope into the hands of a parent whose heart had been shattered by the death of a child.

These words were written from my own unwanted journey, one day at a time, trusting that God could meet us even in the darkest places.

If this testimony speaks to you, I pray it reminds you that hope does not have to arrive all at once. Sometimes it comes as enough strength for today, enough grace for this moment, and enough light to take one more step.

Reflections of Hope is available as a full-year daily devotional. You never have to catch up. Just start on the day you are in and simply take it one day at a time, as needed. Many parents have also found the individual monthly editions especially helpful, so you can choose just the month that may be especially difficult.

Thank you to every parent who has shared how Reflections of Hope has walked beside you. Your stories continue to encourage other grieving hearts in ways you may never know.

Losing a child changes everything. But hope isn't pretending life will go back to the way it was. True hope is knowing that Christ is with us, even in our darkest moments.

If you're a grieving parent, mourning the loss of a son or daughter, or walking through unimaginable grief, this message is for you.

How to Live the Life You Didn't Choose After Child Loss

None of us would ever choose this path.

If you're wondering how to keep living when your heart still longs for your child every single day, this blog was written with you in mind.

This isn't about "moving on" or pretending life is okay. It's about the quiet, difficult reality of taking one small step at a time while carrying your child with you. It's about discovering that even in the hardest places, God gently meets us with the strength we need for the next step.

If today feels overwhelming, I hope these words remind you that you don't have to have everything figured out. You don't have to know what tomorrow looks like. You only need enough grace for today.

If your heart needs a little hope, I invite you to read How to Live the Life You Didn't Choose After Child Loss here:

None of us would have chosen this life. If you're grieving the death of your son or daughter, you know the weight of waking up each day to a reality you never wanted. The pain is real, the questions are hard, and some days simply taking the next step feels impossible. Yet even in the darkest places, God gently meets us with the hope and strength we need for today.

In this week's episode of the Grieving Parents Sharing Hope podcast, Laura Diehl talks about the hard choices that come with child loss. While we cannot choose the path we're on, we can ask God to help us choose the next small step that leads us closer to Him, toward hope, and toward the life He is gently rebuilding. This isn't about moving on from your child. It's about learning how to carry your love for them while trusting God to walk beside you every step of the way.

If your heart needs a little encouragement today, we invite you to listen. We pray this episode reminds you that you are not alone and that hope is still possible, even when life looks nothing like you imagined.
