For individuals transitioning out of residential substance use treatment, having a safe and stable place to call home can make all the difference. Recovery doesn’t stop when treatment ends, and neither should access to support and opportunity.

We are excited to see this investment in individuals in early recovery and hope to see opportunities like RISE continue to expand throughout Mississippi!

Today in Gulfport, the Mississippi Department of Mental Health and Open Doors Homeless Coalition announced a new partnership: RISE – Recovery and Integration through Stable Environments.

RISE is a housing voucher program for adults leaving residential treatment for substance use disorder. The weeks after treatment are when recovery is at its most fragile, and unstable housing is one of the most common causes of relapse. RISE helps remove that barrier by giving people a safe, stable place to continue their recovery.

The program will serve Mississippi's lower six counties: Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, George, Stone and Pearl River.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Knight Nonprofit Center and to the speakers who shared why this work matters, including (from left) Ronnie Arant of Home of Grace, Donald Bates of ODHC's Lived Experience Board, Tamra White of the Mental Health Association of South Mississippi, ODHC Executive Director Dena Wittman, DMH Executive Director Wendy Bailey, Esther Faye Stacy of Region 12 Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources and Pascagoula Police Chief Terry Scott.

Recovery is possible, and it is stronger with a stable place to call home 💙

What a beautiful day to be ROOTED and RISING!

Mississippi Harm Reduction Initiative and Jack Myers House were proud sponsors of this year’s Mississippi Capital City Pride celebration!

For us, supporting Pride goes beyond showing up for a festival. Harm reduction is about meeting people where they are, protecting dignity, and making sure everyone has access to support without judgment. Through Jack Myers House, we also recognize how important safe housing, community, and a sense of belonging are for individuals who have experienced hardship.

Supporting events like this matters because visibility, acceptance, and community connection are part of the work we do every day!

We had a wonderful time connecting with familiar faces, meeting new ones, sharing resources, and participating in conversations about the importance of community support.

A huge thank you to Capital City Pride, the organizers, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this celebration possible! We are grateful to be part of a community that continues to grow, advocate, and create space for EVERYONE!
