What a bittersweet moment.

At Mississippi Harm Reduction Initiative we value the Peer Support movement and are excited to help continue growing the efforts to bring about meaningful change, expand access to care, and support individuals wherever they are on their journey, whatever that looks like, and wherever you are.đź’ś

Thank you to Association of Mississippi Peer Support Specialists-AMPSS for allowing our organization to be a part of something bigger than ourselves… the individuals we serve!

What are your thoughts on the Housing First approach?

The idea is simple: provide stable housing first, then surround people with support like mental health services, recovery resources, peer support, employment assistance, and healthcare.

Instead of requiring someone to “have it all together” before receiving housing, the belief is that stability creates a stronger foundation for healing and recovery.

Do you think programs like this could help reduce homelessness, overdose, incarceration, and mental health crises here in Mississippi?

Is this something you’d like to see expanded in our state? Why or why not?

I’d genuinely love to hear different perspectives and have an open conversation about what compassionate, effective support could look like in our communities. 💛

📍 Join us at Jacob’s Well in Poplarville, Mississippi for our upcoming Come to the Table: Breaking Bread & Building Hope event.

This evening is about more than just sharing a meal. It’s about bringing people together through fellowship, compassion, and meaningful conversation surrounding overdose prevention and community support.

As we continue traveling into rural communities across Mississippi, we are witnessing genuine connections being made and long-term friendships forming through these conversations. We will also continue bringing life-saving resources into communities, including Narcan education and resource boxes filled with hygiene items and essentials.

A huge part of healing begins when people simply come together at the table.

Come to the Table: Breaking Bread & Building Hope

Yesterday was one of those reminders of why this work matters so deeply!

There is something incredibly fulfilling about sitting down together, breaking bread, sharing stories, and having honest conversations that bring people closer instead of further apart. These faith-based overdose prevention trainings are creating more than education… they are creating meaningful relationships, long-term friendships, and stronger communities across Mississippi.

So grateful for the warm welcome from New Covenant Ministries: House of Hope. and for allowing us the space to come together with open hearts and open minds. Thank you to Moltens Kountry Kitchen for the amazing food and for helping create such a welcoming atmosphere for connection and fellowship.

What we experienced yesterday was purposeful, genuine, and full of compassion. Moments like these remind us that when people come together with love, understanding, and a willingness to care for one another, beautiful things happen.

We are excited to continue bringing these conversations into more rural communities across Mississippi in the future while also placing more community resource boxes filled with hygiene items, Narcan, and other life-saving supplies where they are needed most. Every conversation, every connection, and every act of compassion matters.

Thank you to everyone who came, shared space with us, and helped make the evening so meaningful.
