Hinds County Announces Free, Beginner-Friendly Digital Literacy & Broadband Adoption Training

Residents can choose from three-hour classes offered August 28–September 11 at locations throughout Hinds County.

JACKSON, Miss. - August 26, 2026 - The Hinds County Board of Supervisors is inviting residents to take advantage of FREE, beginner-friendly Digital Literacy & Broadband Adoption Training designed to help people build skills, gain confidence, and better connect to opportunities in today's digital world.

Classes will be offered on select dates from August 28 through September 11 at various Hinds County locations, including Bolton, Edwards, Pocahontas, and Raymond/Utica. Participants only need to choose one three-hour class session.

The classes are designed to provide practical, everyday skills that residents can immediately put to use. Training will include using computers and devices, email, accessing government and community services, job and workforce resources, telehealth, internet safety, cybersecurity and scams, understanding internet plans and costs, equipment and connectivity, and basic technology troubleshooting.

There is no cost to participate, and the training is beginner-friendly.

Your Voice, Our Priority

The initiative is about more than teaching technology skills. Hinds County also wants to hear directly from residents about the challenges that may prevent them from fully benefiting from broadband service.

Participants will have an opportunity to share their experiences with issues such as internet affordability, device access, digital skills, internet reliability, and other barriers to broadband adoption.

The feedback received will help Hinds County identify and address barriers and help shape future programs and investments so residents can access, afford, use, and benefit from broadband service.

Communities interested in hosting a training session are also encouraged to contact the program.

We don’t always make announcements. Sometimes, we simply see a need and quietly fill it.

Recently, we were honored to donate 20+ formal dresses and shoes to the Junior Auxiliary of Rankin County, helping make a difference in the lives of young women in our community.

A special thank you to Carla Causey for allowing Bee Inspired Foundation the opportunity to serve and give back. We are grateful for partnerships that allow us to continue making an impact.

If you believe in what we do, consider supporting Bee Inspired Foundation. Your generosity helps us continue meeting needs, serving others, and making a difference, one act of kindness at a time.

This week, we had the incredible opportunity to surprise several JSU students and elderly patrons at Walmart by purchasing their groceries, school supplies, and dorm room essentials.

Some stood there in disbelief, asking, “Why are you doing this for me?” Others were overcome with emotion, shedding tears of joy as they realized someone had chosen to bless them simply because we CAN!

We are grateful that God placed us in a position to be a blessing.

When you have the opportunity to be a blessing, don’t hesitate. Someone may be praying for the very blessing you have the ability to give. 💛

This back-to-school season, Bee Inspired Foundation had the privilege of adopting several close friends and members of our community to help provide school supplies for their children.

We know that preparing for a new school year can be financially challenging, and we wanted these families to know they are seen, supported, and loved.

A backpack filled with supplies may seem like a small gift, but to a child, it can mean confidence on the first day of school. To a parent, it can mean one less worry and a reminder that their community cares.

At Bee Inspired Foundation, our mission has always been to inspire hope, serve with love, and be a blessing to those in need.

💛 Together, we are making a difference, one child, one family, and one act of kindness at a time.

Have a great school year!!

This image was sent to me and as we have already discussed K12 dress codes, my stance has not changed.

We can't deconstruct yte supremacy when we bring the rules of yte supremacy to OUR spaces. We can know what the rules ARE without applying them to OUR spaces.

I grew up in the Hood and was sent into PWI spaces. Professionalism is rooted in bias, racism, and bigotry. If you want to prepare students for conformity and not deconstruction or transformation, go right ahead.

I'm not recommending students to institutions that are more concerned with the white gaze than they are with developing liberatory minds.
Respectability will not save you. Classism will not save you.

We have nothing to lose but our chains.

***I get why it is being reinforced and doubled down upon, I do not agree with it.***

As colleges ramp up their policies, here are a few data points of note [K12]. You're welcome to research higher education [let us be clear incoming freshman are as young as 16-18 ]

Biased and discriminatory school dress codes manifest through disproportionately targeted rules, subjective policing language, and unequal enforcement patterns that penalize students based on gender, race, religion, body type, or socioeconomic status. According to a [U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) report](https://www.edweek.org/leadership/school-dress-code-debates-s*xist-explained/2022/12), 90% of school dress codes explicitly ban items typically worn by girls, while many other codes restrict cultural and religious clothing. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

* Disproportionate clothing bans: Bans tend to affect one gender in a disproportionate manner [7, 8, 9, 10, 11]

* Framing female bodies/hair as "distractions":[12, 13]

* Rigid gender binaries: Rules mandate different clothing types based entirely on s*x assignment [4, 14, 15]

* Ignoring gender identity: The code fails to explicitly state that students may dress in accordance with their gender identity, which leaves transgender and non-binary students vulnerable to discipline. [16, 17]

* Restrictions on natural hair: Regulations ban protective or cultural hairstyles or coverings such as braids, locs, twists, cornrows, or afros under the guise of "neatness". [4, 6]

* Targeting cultural headwear: Rules explicitly ban or fail to provide clear exemptions for hair wraps, bonnets, durags, and religious head coverings like hijabs or turbans. [6, 18]

* Enforcing "respectability politics": The wording heavily favors Eurocentric, corporate standards of presentation, labeling diverse cultural fashion trends as "unprofessional" or "unproductive". [19, 20, 21]

* Vague and subjective language: Words like "revealing," "inappropriate," or "modest" leave compliance up to a staff member's personal opinion. [7, 13]

* Disparate anatomical enforcement: The policy is applied to students with larger bodies or curves who are flagged for the exact same outfit (like a tank top) that is ignored on thinner peers. [2, 22]

* Penalizing poverty: Rules punish students for wearing frayed, worn, or poorly fitting clothes, ignoring families who cannot afford specialized brands or rapid replacement of outgrown clothing. [22, 23]

*Potential for Exclusionary discipline: Students are routinely pulled out of academic classrooms, sent to isolation, or suspended for clothing minor infractions, prioritizing a dress code over their right to an education.

* Public shaming practices: Staff members employ invasive assessment methods, such as the "fingertip rule," kneeling on the floor to measure hems, using tape measures, or forcing students to wear oversized "violation shirts".

* Skewed disciplinary data: School metrics show a stark overrepresentation of Black, Hispanic, or female students receiving punishments for dress violations compared to their overall student population. [2, 3, 7, 22, 24, 25]
