Opera Mississippi’s mission is to provide the community and state with the most dynamic musical stage productions possible. In addition, activities include a variety of educational and community outreach programs including educational performances to students and a variety of other performances for citizens of all ages, including pop, jazz, country, and musical theatre cabarets. The annual John Al

exander National Vocal Competition, the only nationally advertised music competition in the state, is designed to recognize and award outstanding vocalists in both opera and musical theatre. Opera Mississippi is proud to be an integral part of the remarkable artistic heritage that shapes the state, and each year thousands of Mississippians and visitors attend and benefit from our quality performances. Among the remarkable singers that have graced Opera Mississippi stage, are internationally known Beverly Sills, Monserrat Caballe, Robert Merrill, James McCracken, Roberta Peters, Jan Peerce, Richard Tucker, Normal Treigle, John Alexander, Renée Fleming and many others. The growth of Opera Mississippi is reflected in our significant increase in our various activities, variety of performances, board members, sponsors and donors, and educational audiences, as well as our increase in ticket sales and grants. It continues to be a pleasure to be a part of Opera Mississippi’s growth and to work with our outstanding performers, board members, staff and you, our supporters. If you are new to Opera Mississippi we hope that you will enjoy our many wonderful performances.

Come join the fun and celebrate our nation’s 250th in a big way!! 🇺🇸❤️🎵

We're celebrating America's 250th birthday in a BIG way!!

Join us Saturday, July 4, at the Two Mississippi Museums' Entergy Plaza for Stars, Stripes & Symphony, a FREE concert and fireworks extravaganza that’s part of the Levitt AMP Downtown Jackson Music Series!

What’s on tap?

5-6:30 p.m.: Free admission to the Two Mississippi Museums including the special Mississippi Made exhibit.

5-7 p.m.: Traditional dance performances by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, as well as craft and skills demonstrations. Kids’ activities from the Mississippi Library Commission, Mississippi Department of Archives & History and the Choctaw Indians.

7:30 -9 p.m. : Settle in for a rousing patriotic performance by the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, featuring historical narration by MPB - Mississippi Public Broadcasting's Germaine Flood and vocals by Opera Mississippi's John Christopher Adams. As the orchestra performs, look to the sky for a spectacular fireworks finale just after sunset!

Food trucks and beverage vendors will be on site throughout the evening with items for purchase. Bring your family, friends and lawn chairs!
