🌱📚 GROW WITH US THIS SUMMER! 📚🌱

Love books? Love plants? Why not enjoy both?

The Common Soil Collective is excited to partner with Briggs Lawrence County Public Library-Ironton Branch for the ‘Adult Summer Reading Challenge: Grow With Us!’

From May 26 – July 25, participants enrolled in the library’s summer reading program can complete three simple activities and earn a FREE plant from The Common Soil Collective! 🌿

✅ Read a nature-themed book
✅ Visit the Briggs Seed Library and take home some seeds
✅ Attend a nature-themed program at the library

Once you’ve completed all three activities, turn in your card at the library and receive your plant!

This challenge is a fun way to explore the natural world, discover new books, connect with your community and maybe even grow something amazing along the way. 🌻

A huge thank you to Briggs Library for continuing to create opportunities for lifelong learning and community engagement. We are thrilled to be part of this year’s Summer Reading Program!

🌟 Volunteer Opportunity 🌟

Did you know that 1 in 3 low-income women miss work or school because they can't afford period products? From June 8 through 12, United Way of the River Cities is taking action through Week of Action: Project Period, an annual volunteer initiative focused on addressing period insecurity across our region.

Ohio University Southern staff have rolled up their sleeves for Project Period in past years, and this year we are asking the community to help fill open spots in Ironton. Volunteers will assemble period kits filled with tampons, pads, and wipes, with the option to decorate canvas bags and write encouraging notes for the people receiving them. As a thank-you, every volunteer receives a Project Period-branded water bottle.

The Backpack Buddies shift on Tuesday, June 9, from 10 to 11 a.m. has 5 of 30 slots filled, so every sign-up makes a real difference.

Sign up to volunteer: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/ProjectPeriod2026

Closer to home, OHIO Southern is proud to keep our campus restrooms stocked with free period products year-round. Big and small efforts add up to real change.

If you’re a community member or business interested in supporting the services provided at the center, send us a message.
