Corporal John Harvey along with his son Private Albert Harvey both served in the Union Army during the Civil War. Company G, 2nd West Virginia Cavalry.
Today I located the stone of Albert Harvey who was buried in W. D. Kelly Cemetery. The one thing I wish to note about his stone is the Flag that is located at the top center of his grave stone.
Albert died in the line of duty on May 2nd, 1863.
John died in 1907 and is buried in Woodland Cemetery. I had raised his stone in the past couple of years.
I have attached several photos of the overgrown condition surrounding Albert’s stone. Albert’s stone has fallen and was resting on the ground.
Albert’s mother name is Julian and it is unclear where she rest. She was born in Pennsylvania and at one time the family lived in Greenup County Kentucky.
John and Albert thank you for your service and your sacrifice to our great country.

John served in Company B of the 1st West Virginia light artillery.
John was born in 1829 in Ireland and died in Lawrence County Ohio in 1878.

Shout out to Justin Sands who brought this Cemetery to my attention.
Down on the Farm, that is the Bob Evans Farm you will find the Wood Family Cemetery.
Time, storms, trees have not been kind to this small family Cemetery. Today I applied Endurance Grave stone cleaner to start the process of cleaning up this cemetery.
Ms. Williams the farm caretaker has allowed Decoration Day 1868 to evaluate and provide options to restore and raise these historic grave markers.

Spent the morning with members of Camp Charlotte’s Sons of the American Revolution of Pickaway County Ohio.
Their ceremony was to honor the service of Ohio’s first Auditor and Revolutionary War Soldier Thomas Gibson.
This was my very first time to watch a service by the SAR and it was very Respectful. They placed a gravestone in his honor.
Additionally I would like to express our appreciation to the staff of Reber Hill Cemetery to coordinate both the service of Thomas Gibson and respectfully provide excellent service to the family being buried there today. Hats off to them.
I also included a photo of the Marble Gravestone that Decoration Day 1868 placed on April 17th 2026

Ridgewood Cemetery in Wellston, Jackson County Ohio.
I spent a few hours today applying Endurance grave stone cleaner to several Veterans stones.
With the weather line it is for the next few days and then some rain in about a week they should look cleaner in a few months.

Spent a few hours in Gallia County today. Replaced a flag and cleaned a few grave stones at New Hope Baptist Church.

Lawrence county Ohio Revolutionary War Soldiers.
Working with the Lawrence County Ohio Geological Society for the past two years a final list of revolutionary war solders was compiled.
Compiling a list has taken a lot of time and research. Those with undocumented or unable to locate the cemetery and or their grave will receive a marble stone to honor their service.
The placement of those stones will be in the W D Kelly cemetery.

Progress proceeds at W.D. Kelly Cemetery, Ironton Lawrence County Ohio.
Large trees fell at WD Kelly cemetery delayed the cleaning process of the cemetery. Earlier this month community leaders met to discuss a plan to resume removing the fallen trees.
Judge Waldo, Mayor Cramblit, Thomas and Walters representing Upper Twp. are committed to seeing the project through.
Today we are pleased to announce that a loop thru the cemetery allowing workers to move in and out of the cemetery without crossing any known graves is completed.
Phase one will start in the first few weeks of June with Mayor Cramblit and the city agreeing to remove the remaining large fallen trees.
Judge Waldo leading the way with his work program will clean up the limbs from those trees. The work program will continue to assist in the expansion of the current maintained area of the cemetery exposing additional graves lost to time.
At this time you’re encouraged to walk up and look around at the progress. Understanding that there is a lot of work to be done.
Please do not drive into the cemetery at this time.
Stay tuned for updates and the progress of W. D. Kelly Cemetery.
Let’s all work to reclaim our cemeteries in our cities, villages, and townships.
The first question someone has is who is responsible? The answer is WE are.
