Setting an example – that’s one of the many ways that fathers impress upon their children what is important in life and the values they hold dear. At the Peace Pavilion, we are thankful for the fathers who make peace a priority by joining their children in interacting with the exhibits!

Juneteenth celebrates the official end of slavery over 150 years ago and commemorates those who sacrificed themselves in the name of freedom. Today, we’re reminded of Opal Lee, who led the efforts to make Juneteenth a federal holiday, who said, “None of us are free until we’re all free.”

You can help kids learn how to create a more equitable and peaceful world through the Peace Pavilion’s interactive exhibits, teaching that despite differences in the world, everyone has the same basic needs and rights. This is also a great time to participate in a Juneteenth event in your community!

Play is both fun and how kids learn and develop. That’s how the Peace Pavilion approaches its lessons – through interactive play that helps foster peace in their lives, families, community, and world.

The United Nations’ theme for this year is “Protect play, protect childhood.” For more information about this special day and the essential role of play in a child’s life, check out https://righttoplay.com/en/landing/celebrating-the-international-day-of-play/. Come support play at the Peace Pavilion with YOUR kids or grandkids!

"Even if you don’t live near an ocean, there are several things you can do to reduce marine waste. Litter contributes to all of this ocean debris; it washes off into creeks and gets caught in stormwater and catch basins and ends up in rivers that flow into large bodies of water—not only is it an eyesore it’s a human health problem as well. Anyone can organize a community litter cleanup.” — Millicent Pitts, CEO and Executive Director, Ocean Exchange

The Peace Pavilion focuses on providing experiential peace education lessons to all, so as of this month, the museum is participating in the national ‘Museums for All’ access program. This program will help the Pavilion offer reduced individual admission fees of $4.00 to up to four low-income individuals and families presenting a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, and a valid form of photo ID.

Here’s to championing equal access for families with limited incomes, building lifelong museum habits, and providing welcome and support to all community members!
