“Forgiveness is the experience of peacefulness in the present moment. Forgiveness does not change the past, but it changes the present.” – Frederic Luskin

Peace for Everyone – that’s one of the four exhibit rooms at the Peace Pavilion. And here to introduce you to the activities in that room are the puppets Lily and Sam. They may not be the Muppets, but they have just as much personality and passion for peace!

Everyone can do their part for peace through local and regional actions, and today, the Peace Pavilion honors those tackling humanity’s challenges. Here are some small steps for peace from the United Nations that can be done every day:
• Give your time to help someone else.
• Lend your voice to drive positive change.
• Host a Peace Circle - an intergenerational youth-led conversation on solutions.
• Use your platform to promote a cause or tell a story of peace and hope

The Peace Pavilion is pleased to receive the gift of a peace pole from PeaceWorks Kansas City, which will be displayed at the museum's outdoor event space. The peace pole features the message "May Peace Prevail on Earth," and was created as an interactive children's activity at the 2024 PeaceWorks Kansas City Art Fair. Therese McKechnie, founder of "PeacePoleKC," directed the activity and promotes peace poles in the area.

Dave Pack, Chair of PeaceWorks KC, the grassroots peace and justice organization, made the presentation. He shared, "Like the Peace Pavilion, PeaceWorks has felt we should deal with kids and their need for peace." Toward that goal, they have promoted nonviolent community action, arms control, and social change since 1982, provided university scholarships, supported conflict resolution training for the Urban Ranger Corps, and continue to support educational opportunities for the Learning Club of Kansas City, KS.

The Peace Pavilion appreciates the support of PeaceWorks Kansas City and other organizations that care about and share our pursuit of peace.

The Peace Pavilion’s “Peace for Everyone” exhibit room focuses on different cultures throughout the world to promote understanding. That includes a Pueblo Adobe House representing Hispanic and Latino cultures. This month, we celebrate the anniversary of independence of seven Latin American nations, and the leaders, changemakers, and innovators who have impacted and inspired individuals and communities throughout the U.S.
