Today is National Nonspeaking Awareness Day and one of the most important things I’ve learned from working with nonspeaking individuals and their families is this: the ability to speak is not the same as the ability to think, understand, feel, or communicate.

We should never assume that someone’s outward ability to respond tells us what they understand internally.

Communication can take many forms, and every person deserves to be spoken to with respect, included in the conversation, and given the opportunity to show us what they know.

Presume competence always.

Sometimes, “sit on his belly” means exactly that.

For some autistic children, language can be understood very literally. What may seem obvious to us can be interpreted differently — and that’s why the way we communicate matters.

At Mats For All, we learn to meet each student where they are, adjust our communication, and create an environment where they can learn, participate, and feel understood.

Because sometimes, a small change in the way we communicate can make a big difference.

Whether you've never thrown a punch or you're looking to sharpen your skills, this 6-week Learn to Box Clinic is the perfect place to start.

You'll learn the fundamentals, improve your fitness, build confidence, and train in a fun, supportive environment alongside great people.
