Today is World Bicycle Day 🚲

Do you travel through the med district or on Governors Drive?

Huntsville wants to hear from you and has created a survey looking for feedback.
The Governors Drive and Medical District Safety Study will review transportation safety issues on the corridor and propose solutions to improve conditions for everyone who travels in the area. A vital component of the study is to connect with people who travel the corridor to understand their concerns and priorities, so your insights are critical! Please take this short survey to share your experience with the corridor and weigh in on proposed improvements. The survey should take around 15 minutes to complete.

Friday afternoon, HEC teamed up with Wild Ones North Alabama and Denise Woodring of Green Thumb Design to host a private tour of her home garden. This home garden is a wonderful example of what is possible with native landscaping, particularly within the constraints of an HOA community.

Our goal was to share techniques, plant suggestions, ideas for discussing plans with your HOA and your community, and ways to maintain the garden for maximum benefit for wildlife, all while keeping a tidy garden all can marvel. We are so grateful for those who attended and for Denise for hosting. We hope to host more events like this in the future so stay tuned!

A huge thanks to the crowd that came out to Huntsville Green Thinks this past Wednesday to learn about recycling and composting in our town with Moriah from Phoenix Glass & NewTerra Compost. We reviewed local resources for responsibly reducing, reusing, and recycling our waste. You can see the full list of resources on our website: https://huntsvilleenvironmentalcoalition.org/resources

We also introduced our new EAT Program, an initiative designed to celebrate ongoing sustainable practices at restaurants, cafes, breweries, and other food establishments, and to encourage other businesses to do the same! The focus is on reducing single-use plastics, minimizing food waste, improving access to local foods, and supporting plant-based diets.

🌱 Thanks to our wonderful group of volunteers who came out today in between rain drops to get over 100 plants in the ground at the City of Huntsville, Alabama - Government Green Team Joy McKee Arboretum! This section of the garden will continue to be planted, weeded, and maintained by our collaborative group of volunteers as a designated HEC garden!

Volunteers came out from HEC, but also from many of our partner and coalition organizations like Wild Ones North Alabama and the Master Gardeners of North Alabama. 🪴

While the Arboretum and garden is not yet open to the public, we will continue to work with the city to host regularly occurring workdays and programs throughout the year .

The best way to stay tuned about upcoming events is to like and follow us on social media and sign up for our monthly newsletter: https://preview.mailerlite.io/forms/1212031/160644095451071570/share
