Marshall University is excited to welcome home Joe Chrest, a 1986 graduate and star of the hit Netflix series “Stranger Things,” who will serve as grand marshal for the university’s 2026 Homecoming activities the week of Sept. 21 through Sept. 26.

Highlighting his role as grand marshal, Chrest will lead the Homecoming parade at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25. The parade is part of a full week of activities for this year’s Homecoming, “’80s Echoes: Come Back Curious.” The theme honors Chrest’s years at Marshall and draws inspiration from the nostalgic world of 1980s mysteries, as often referenced in “Stranger Things.”

Three cheers for 90 years Marshall Artists Series! Tickets for this year’s season go on sale Monday, Aug. 24!

This year’s season features guests like Graham Nash, Malcolm Gladwell, and a chance to see the Tony Award-winning musical, “Hadestown!”

As we celebrate this milestone, we’re looking back on some of our most memorable performances, dating all the way back to 1936! It all began on Sept. 15, when Marshall held a film presentation to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the college. Since then, the Marshall Artists Series has featured hundreds of musicians, comedians, speakers and stage productions, offering unforgettable experiences for students and community members of all ages!

The Marshall University Foundation has announced a $25,000 gift toward the Campus Christian Center (CCC). The donor of the gift wishes to remain anonymous.

The gift will be used to update the facility, specifically focusing on strengthening its campus visibility and inspiring hope, Kay Hensley said. Hensley currently runs the facility and serves as the office administrator. Prior to taking on her current role, she served as a volunteer with the center for over 12 years.

“As much as people know where campus is, it’s surprising how many people don’t know that our building is right there,” Hensley said. “We are trying to emphasize the lighthouse theme. We are hoping to put up a window mural of a lighthouse so people can recognize us on campus.”

The CCC came to Huntington in 1958, officially opening its doors to the public in 1960 during a time of university-wide expansion. Since then, the CCC has cultivated a student-led mission, aiming to be a beacon of light for Marshall University.
