It started with a conversation.

Back in March, we brought content creators Erika Harrison and Shea Jordan Smith into the room with Houston’s arts community because the internet was already talking about Houston as a cultural destination, and we felt like both worlds needed to actually meet. That one conversation turned into something bigger.

Tomorrow, we’re taking it further. The Arts x Influence: A Creative Exchange brings together Houston’s arts sector and creators for a night of open discussion, new connections, and one shared question: how do we tell Houston’s story together? Claudia, Erika, and Shea will also be part of the panel conversation during the event.

Did you catch the HouArts pins at this month’s Arts & Culture Committee meeting? 👀

Our team showed up across the agenda! Claudia shared the work of the Effective Storytelling working group, focusing on how we shape and shift the narrative of Houston as a cultural destination. Marci followed with updates on Houston’s Cultural Districts and a broader marketing initiative in collaboration with work that echoes the same question: how do we make sure the story reaches people, and reflects the city we know? Jaison, representing the Cultural District, highlighted upcoming events across the city (event calendar: JuneteenthHouston.org)

Different moments, one thread: what is the story we’re telling about Houston, and how do we carry it forward together?

You can watch the full committee meeting on HTV Houston Television or their page.
