We have tunnel vision for Turkey Bend 👀

The Warehouse at Turkey Bend's epic "art tunnel" is adapted from the site's original function as a shipping hub and barge terminal, dating from 1937. Closed for many years, the warehouse became a gallery for local and national graffiti artists, adding to the structure's colorful history.

BBP approached the renovation and adaptation of this site with an eye towards preservation and retaining the unique industrial and artistic character. Today, the heavily painted walls of the tunnel have been preserved to add an iconic flair to festivals and community gatherings that take place at the venue.

Interested in adding a little "tunnel vision" to your next event? Consider hosting it at the Warehouse at Turkey Bend! Find more info here: https://ow.ly/4QyC50Z5FRL

POV: You witness the emergence of 300,000 bats from Waugh Bridge at sunset 🦇

This we celebrate the role these important flying mammals play in the bayou ecosystem.

🌆 Mexican free-tailed bats roost in the crevices beneath Waugh Bridge, and emerge most evenings at sunset to hunt for food.

🦟 Bats consume hundreds of thousands of insects per night, including mosquitos and beetles.

🌧️ Bats don't like the rain! Like many of us, if bats find that it's raining when they start to emerge, they tend to head back under the bridge for shelter.

🌡️ Bats require high temperatures and humidity levels, and most of the colony remains at Waugh Bridge year-round, with the population peaking in late summer.

Witness the spectacle with Bat Chats led by the Houston Area Bat Team, or from BBP's Bat Cruises. But plan ahead, tours sell out quickly! Learn more: https://buffalobayou.org/summer-species-bats/

Conservation, but make it Wes Anderson. 🌿🎞️

Carefully curated landscapes. Meticulously maintained trails. A cast of native plants and wildlife thriving along the bayou.

Behind the scenes, BBP’s Conservation Team is out there every day—protecting habitat, reducing erosion, caring for native vegetation, and keeping Buffalo Bayou’s parks and trails vibrant for everyone who visits.

It may look effortless, but every flourishing meadow, shaded trail, and blooming pocket of green is the result of thoughtful stewardship and a little everyday magic.

Next time you’re out along the bayou, take a moment to appreciate the team helping keep it all beautifully in frame.
