It has truly been an immense honor to serve! 🖤
As my term as President of the Houston Lawyers Association comes to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on everything this community built together under our theme: Lifting as We Climb: The Duty of the Black Lawyer.
This year, HLA showed up and MADE IT HAPPEN!
💰 Investing more than 50,000 in scholarships to the next generation of legal professionals!
✊🏾 We kicked off the year with our 2nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration and Cookout, honoring our ancestors and our legacy.
📚 Monthly General Body Meetings + CLEs, plus multiple Transactional Section CLEs, keeping our members top of class!
🎉 Monthly Membership Mixers, to maintain comrade and connection!
🗳️ Bar to the Ballot & CD-18 Candidates Forum, recalling the legacy of HLA leadership in CD-18, and putting our civic duty into practice!
📋 Relaunched our Estate Planning Clinic, bringing free legal services to families in our community!
🎓 Driving Excellence & Impact Scholarship Luncheon — $20,000 awarded to the next generation of Black lawyers
⚖️ Relaunching our Full Day CLE Seminars in Criminal and Estate Planning & Probate, providing our members with more 10 plus hours of free CLE credit, engagement, and networking.
📖 Launching of new signature events like Books & Chambers, where great legal minds meet great books!
🤝Formed new and maintained existing coalitions with other impactful organizations.
🎭 All Black Masquerade Gala, closing Year 71 by removing the mask and mystery of the legal profession in style! Awarding over $30,000 in scholarships.
This organization is 71 years strong because of people who believed in the duty of the Black lawyer long before many of us every even dreamed a career in the legal profession was possible. I am honored to have carried that legacy of excellence.
Thank you to every member, sponsor, and partner who climbed with me. The work continues. 🙌🏾
