Thank you Community Impact for highlighting the See to Succeed Program and our recently launched Eye Believe Bus! Raising awareness about the thousands of students in the Houston area each year who are not able to receive needed vision correction helps to identify barriers and provide solutions. Together with partners, schools, sponsors, volunteers, and our community, we’re making sure all children have access to a pair of glasses when they need them. Every child deserves to see to succeed!

Big dreams are rolling into our community! 🚌✨ We were thrilled to officially launch the "Eye Believe Bus," our new mobile vision unit for the See to Succeed program on September 1st at Aldine ISD’s Versa Reece Academy.

Through partnerships with schools, clinics, and community partners, we’re taking early eye care directly to our youngest learners, ensuring every child has the clear vision they need to thrive in the classroom and beyond. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our kickoff and for our incredible supporters and sponsors of See to Succeed! A special shout-out to Diaka Melendez, Chief of Schools at Aldine ISD; Dr. Theresa Tran, Director of the Houston Health Department; and Debra Patterson of Council Member Tarsha Jackson’s office for presenting an official recognition from the Council Member - thank you! 👓

My Brother’s Keeper Houston, in partnership with BridgeYear, invites students to an interactive Career Test Drive Experience designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and help young people explore real-world career pathways.

This hands-on event gives students the opportunity to engage with multiple industries in an immersive way, helping them discover what aligns with their interests, strengths, and future goals.

This opportunity is great for middle and high school students, young adults exploring career options, parents and caregivers supporting career planning, educators, mentors, and youth advocates!

☀️ 😎 Thank you to Joe Icet for leading another eye-opening community garden event! 🌱

We are always grateful when Joe Icet joins us to kickoff an informative discussion about the life-giving benefits of cooperative urban farming. Last Sunday, Joe and friends shared wisdom about organic soil cultivation, gardening in Texas heat, w**d control, and the elemental balance of healthy soil. Joe reminded us that healthy, living soil heals our environment, while providing nourishing harvests. We also learned about little-known crop preparation, such as sweet potato greens! Participants went home with seedlings and bags of Tennessee mycelium mix compost!

If you missed our event this past Sunday, tune into “Can You Dig It?”, a community gardening and talk show hosted by Terry Garner on KPFT 90.1 FM, Friday August 7, where Joe will be a featured guest.

Thank you to the community who could join us, and a special thank you to Betty Haecker at Wabash Feed & Garden.

It’s National Vision Month! Dr. Veronica Mendez, See to Succeed Clinical Director, wants to share a tip for keeping healthy eyes.

Limiting screen time is important for preventing eye strain, so to give your eyes a break by remembering the 20-20-20 Rule! Take a 20 second break, every 20 minutes, by looking at something 20 feet away. You don’t have to follow this rule to the second, but taking regular breaks allows your eyes to rest and maintain their health.
