When communities plan, they're better prepared for whatever comes next.

Following the widespread power outages caused by Hurricane Beryl, TMO leaders secured $250,000 to establish Houston's first Community Lighthouse at New Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Kashmere Gardens.

Equipped with solar panels and battery storage, the Community Lighthouse will provide charging stations, cooling and heating space, food distribution, and support for residents who rely on electricity-powered medical equipment when the grid goes down.

At the start of hurricane season, TMO leaders are organizing here to strengthen relationships, identify community needs, and ensure neighbors are prepared before the next storm.

💙 We are honored and deeply appreciative of Harris Health for awarding TMO the Garnett F. Coleman Health Equity Award this morning 🏆 — recognizing the collective power of organized people to expand Ben Taub Hospital and increase access to life-saving healthcare for our growing community 🏥✨

This belongs to our TMO leaders who secured nearly 2,200 petition signatures, educated their communities, and worked with county commissioners and key stakeholders behind the scenes to make this possible 🙌

We also thank Harris County Commissioners for voting to approve the expansion while increasing access to Hermann Park 🌳

đź’ĄCongratulations to TMO leaders on winning a major victory for life-saving healthcare in Harris County!

Through community education, public testimony, meeting with county commissioners, and gathering over 2,000 petition signatures, leaders organized the political will for a unanimous vote to acquire the land needed to expand Ben Taub Hospital—operating over capacity every day.

“This is a victory for all families,” said Bishop John Ogletree, TMO leader. “Any one of us could have a loved one who needs to go to a Level One Trauma Center and we would want Ben Taub to have the space to treat them.”

Thank you to Harris County Commissioners for working with community leaders to move this forward.
