This belongs to our TMO leaders who secured nearly 2,200 petition signatures, educated their communities, and worked with county commissioners and key stakeholders behind the scenes to make this possible 🙌

We also thank Harris County Commissioners for voting to approve the expansion while increasing access to Hermann Park 🌳

💥Congratulations to TMO leaders on winning a major victory for life-saving healthcare in Harris County!

Through community education, public testimony, meeting with county commissioners, and gathering over 2,000 petition signatures, leaders organized the political will for a unanimous vote to acquire the land needed to expand Ben Taub Hospital—operating over capacity every day.

“This is a victory for all families,” said Bishop John Ogletree, TMO leader. “Any one of us could have a loved one who needs to go to a Level One Trauma Center and we would want Ben Taub to have the space to treat them.”

Thank you to Harris County Commissioners for working with community leaders to move this forward.

You may always vote provisionally if something happens to mess up your registration. No one should ever be turned away. If your address doesn't match, there is a green form to fill out and then you can vote. If they can't find you anywhere, you vote and your ballot is put into a special envelope. You have a chance to discuss with the Election Board. Never walk away without voting!

This week, TMO joins the rest of Houston in mourning the loss of Rep. Shelia Jackson Lee.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee consistently fought for the common good, especially to assure that people on the margins were treated with dignity.

Whether it was legislating for a just and humane immigration system; shepherding federal grant funds to much needed Houston area projects; or working on the front lines to help working people recover from our all-too-frequent disasters, Sheila was always there and ready to work. She also willingly participated in TMO’s Candidate Accountability Sessions in 2022 for US Congress and 2023 for Houston Mayor.

This past weekend, in the wake of Hurricane Beryl, TMO sent out a survey that reached over 4,400 community members impacted by the storm.

Their responses highlighted what many in the Greater Houston area are still experiencing over a week later - no power, down trees, and concerns about access to food, medicine, and a place to cool off.

Yesterday, TMO leaders held a press conference at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in the Kashmere Gardens neighborhood to bring attention to those responses.

They demanded that the State of Texas, the City of Houston, and CenterPoint Energy take swift action to address those still in desperate need, as well as better prepare themselves for the storm season that lies ahead.
